The villains who make up Task Force X in The Suicide Squad are a unique bunch, and director James Gunn has now revealed 12 more possibilities we could have seen had they fit the story he was telling here.

As well as some heavy-hitters from the comic books, The Suicide Squad looks set to bring a lot of obscure DC Comics villains to the big screen as members of Task Force X. The likes of Polka-Dot Man, Ratcatcher II, and Peacemaker will make their debuts in the movie, but some other huge - and not so huge - names very nearly joined them.

Taking to Twitter over the weekend, James Gunn revealed some of the other names he considered, and it's hard not to be at least a little disappointed we didn't get to see them in action!

Listed in the Tweet below, you'll see Livewire, Punch and Jewelee, Black Spider, Deathstroke, Man-Bat, Plastique, Chemo, KGBeast, Solomon Grundy, Rainbow Creature, Gunhawk, and Knockout. As if that's not enough, Gunn would later reveal that he also considered Killer Frost and Mister Freeze, while he briefly thought about making use of Black Manta.

Gunn has talked about the possibility of returning to the DC Extended Universe for another Suicide Squad movie, so perhaps we'll see him make use of some of these bad guys there instead?

For now, check out his Tweets below:

Some new stills from The Suicide Squad have also been released and you can check those out below:

"Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A," reads the synopsis. "Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese."

"Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and- destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave...and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them."

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6th, 2021.

Deathstroke, Killer Frost and Mr. Freeze would all be really cool to see in a Suicide Squad project, but not Gunn's. I could see Black Spider and Grundy fit in though.

KGBeast would've been interesting too, but he was obviously killed by Batman in Dawn of Justice (unless this is a different timeline)

Man Bat would've been cool. Would've preferred him than... Weasel lol.

Sidebar here: As much as I love Mr. Freeze, idk if he's great enough material for a 2 hour movie. I've said it before, but I'd love a Batman movie where they do small vignettes, that feature more obscure villains that can't do a whole "save the whole city" thing.

Anyway, I'm glad Gunn got all choices and the movie looks solid

@Dredd97 - Once upon a time, after TDK trilogy, I wrote a plot and ideas outline for a Batman trilogy that did almost exactly this. I thought it’d be fun to have villains who couldn’t carry a whole movie by themselves appear in a cold open, with each cold open having a more freakish villain, with the idea being that the longer Batman remains active in Gotham, the worst it gets. I believe the first villain I chose was Zsasz, then it was Mad Hatter for the sequel, and finally Professor Pyg

@SoulReaver - Professor Pyg could be a potential next villain For Matt Reeve's The Batman. a psychology Horror that pushes batman's detective skills to the limit

Gunhawk is an odd choice. He was a one-off AzBats villain during Knightquest. He died in the issue.
I woulda gone with Gunbunny (his HarleyQuinn) since she actually survived the issue.

Or recent James Tynion character Gunsmith (who is essentially an amalgam of Gunhawk and Crimesmith, being as he's both a weapons engineer and an assassin and even sports a similar American flag bandana).

At first I really thought Elba was playing Black Spider, totally saw him getting a traitor reveal towards the end.

Black Manta popping up here would have raised too many questions about the end of Aquaman, but I'd have loved to see Man-Bat get the love action treatment.

Would've preferred Man-Bat or Grundy instead of Weasel, but I'm glad we got King Shark at least.

My choices would've been Livewire, Killer Frost, Man Bat, Solomon Grundy, and Deathstroke. And not all in one film. Over a course of two probably.

Great well rounded list from multiple heroes rogues gallery in DC.

Deathstroke works best as controlled opposition or as a straight up opposing villain interfering with the Suicide Squads plans. Because he's so powerful.

Would've love a Deadshot vs Deathstroke rivalry on screen. Fighting for command of the team as alpha males.

But an ever doper Idea would be Deathstroke operating as a hired assassin to control a militia for Ra's Al Ghul or Vandel Savage in a War Torn Country.

Bloody Mary could be a good member of Task Force X. A vampire captured after centuries. A vampire who drains energy.

Also, I can imagine Bloody Mary locked in a Cage.

I wonder if he considered using Poison Ivy or if Margot Robbie ran that idea by him. She'd be a great fit for a sequel if it's got the right story, especially if Elizabeth Gillies played her:

She's got the look, the seductive and manipulative attitude, and especially the dry sense of humor. I could easily see her and Margot's Harley playing off each other well.
