Suicide Squad was released back in 2016, it quickly proved to be a box office success but was met with scathing reviews from critics. Now, Warner Bros. has handed the franchise over to
Guardians of the Galaxy helmer James Gunn, and the signs are all pointing to the follow-up putting Task Force X back on the right path and delivering a worthy big screen adventure for the DC Comics anti-heroes.
The question is, will
The Suicide Squad be a sequel to the first instalment or a total reboot?
"These terms are all so narrow, there's so many terms," he reveals in the video below, adding that
"it is what it is. You'll see in two years when it comes out."
In other words, it doesn't appear as if Gunn has any interest in providing clarification right now, but considering the fact that we're getting a mixture of new and returning cast members, the truth is likely somewhere in between (remember how
The Incredible Hulk served as a soft reboot to Ang Lee's
Hulk?).
