THE SUICIDE SQUAD Passes $150M At The Global Box Office As It Becomes HBO Max's Most-Watched DC Movie

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad did not perform very well at the box office, and has only just passed the $150M mark worldwide. However, the movie has officially become the most-watched DC film on HBO Max.

An R-rated reimagining of a notoriously dunked-upon comic book movie from a filmmaker with James Gunn's offbeat sensibilities was always going to be a hard sell in the current climate, and sure enough, The Suicide Squad seriously underperformed at the box office.

Despite a very positive critical reception, Task Force X's latest outing took in just $4.6 million this weekend overseas, raising its international cume to $101.8M. It also made $52 million in North America, bringing its global total to $154.6 million. The film's final gross is expected to land in the $175-$200M range.

A disappointing run, for sure, but The Suicide Squad has fared a lot better on HBO Max.

According to viewing analytics organization Samba TV, the movie was viewed by 4.7 million US households during the first three weekends of its release, topping Wonder Woman 1984 (3.9 million) and Zack Snyder's Justice League (3.2 million) to become the most-watched DC Comics film on the streaming platform. It failed to catch-up to Mortal Kombat (5.5 million) and Godzilla vs Kong (5.1 million, however.

Of course, TSS was available to HBO Max subscribers at no extra cost, but these figures do bode well for the eventual home release.
