Following the news of Lex Luthor making his debut in CW's Supergirl season 4, fans have already expressed interest in who they want to be cast as the classic Superman villain: they're clamoring for Smallville alumni Michael Rosenbaum to reprise the role he played for seven seasons on Smallville.

Rosenbaum himself made a humorous response to one of these suggestions without actually revealing if he'd be interested in returning to the role.

Yeh it won't happen. If you listen to Michael Rosembaums podcast (inside of you). He clearly states that he has done everything with that character and that's why he left. Maybe he'd be up for a cameo but not a reoccurring role for sure.

While I love him as Lex and believe he is hands down the best live action Lex Luthor we've had thus far, I dont think I want him as Lex in Supergirl. What made him so perfect in Smallville was his chemistry with that cast and how it developed naturally over the course of several seasons. Just tossing him into this already existing world with different actors would be jarring and offputting. Plus I'd secretly want to see him working against Tom Wellings Clark and those comparisons would not enhance the show. This Lex needs to be cast compared to his chemistry with the Supergirl cast and most importantly if they really are developing a Superman show then his chemistry with Tyler Hoechlin.

I like some of the ideas tossed around on the other article for Lex, but my personal fan cast (which is likely a pipe dream and never gonna happen) would be this guy...



Can you just imagine how much Andrew Lincoln would elevate this shows quality and how threatening him as Lex Luthor would be? He is a phenomenal actor as me all know, and hes free from his Walking Dead commitments. And hes a loving father who might do it just to star in a show his kids could actually watch, plus the massive pay checks to rope him in.

Listen, I realize the possibilities of this ever happening are pretty much none, but how glorious it would be and how massive a get it would be if CW managed to actually snag him.

If they didn’t cast Tom Welling as Superman they won’t cast him as Lex...

And pft he tried to leave the role they literally had to beg him to return for the Smallville season finale...

If ANY character and actor deserves a spinoff and their own series it's Lex with Rosenbaum playing the role.

I would absolutely LOVE a Lex Luthor show .. all his point of view too. Superman only appears now and then to thwart some kind of plan and we share Lex's view that Superman is bad etc

Otherwise it's all about Lex, his plans to try and destroy Superman and become ruler of the world etc.

Put it on HBO or Netflix .. I'd watch the crap out of it and there would be no shortage of stories to tell

If you couldn't get Rosenbaum for it, then Cranston would be my next choice

@MrDandy - wondering were you think John Shea lands in your list? To me he’s right up there with Rosenbaum. What I loved about Rosenbaum and really about Smaillvulle was the Lex/Clark relationship played by Rosenbaum/Welling.

A lot of people want him as lex, and I loved him in Smallville. But so few realize how goddamn FUNNY the man is! I would love to see him in anything comic related (Guardians didn’t count, he said two words in the future.)

MR was awesome in Smallville. But whoever they pick will be awesome too because Luthor is about the coolest f*cking character you can play as an actor. He is an unconflicted Batman a literal superman....and evil which is fun too... and his general costume is expensive suits or orange jumpsuits both of which work with bald quite well.

I doubt he wants to do it. If Welling was their Superman, I'd be all for it but since he isn't, it wouldn't be as worthwhile to see Rosenbaum instead of a new, potentially very good Lex.

If they didn’t have Tom Welling as Superman I wouldn’t want Michael Rosenbaum as Lex. He’s great but it just doesn’t feel right to me. I’d still like to see him as a live action Wally West though and with the way the DCEU is right now I don’t see why that couldn’t happen

It's up to the producers and Rosenbaum himself to decide if this works. If they cast him, I will love it. If they don't I will probably still love it, since the Lex of Supergirl seems to be the super genius super villain. Not just a businessman trying to get rich with some land grab scheme.
