Henry Cavill Reportedly Isn't Under Contract To Appear In THE FLASH Or Any Other DC Movie As Superman Henry Cavill Reportedly Isn't Under Contract To Appear In THE FLASH Or Any Other DC Movie As Superman

There were rumblings last night that Henry Cavill might be set to reprise the role of Superman in The Flash, but this was quickly debunked with the news that he doesn't have any contractual obligations.

The Flash is a movie that's obviously going to include a lot of cameos, but it doesn't sound like Henry Cavill's Superman will be among them. We know Sasha Calle will debut as Supergirl, of course, but Cavill's version of the Man of Steel looks set to remain M.I.A. from the DC Extended Universe.

Last night, there were rumblings online that the actor might have signed up for a cameo appearance in the 2022 movie, but The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez was quick to debunk the report.

As you can see, it sounds like Warner Bros. isn't currently lining Cavill up for an appearance in any upcoming DC movies, which is no great surprise when his relationship with the studio seemingly soured around the time talks for a cameo appearance in Shazam! broke down. In 2017, Cavill did say he was under contract for at least one more movie, but that doesn't mean the studio will use him.

Why not? Well, it's clear Warner Bros. is moving on to other iterations of Superman; Michael B. Jordan is expected to bring Val-Zod to HBO Max for a TV series, while a big screen reboot is going to feature a Black actor playing Clark Kent/Kal-El in what sounds like a period piece of some sort.

It's a shame, but between his humiliating experience during those Justice League reshoots and the fact he was replaced by a body double in Shazam!, chances are Cavill is happy to move on.

Everytime Cavill is in a Movie or TV Show, I just see Twitter go absolutely nuts for him.
Shows how Warner Bros really dropped the ball as they effectively had him first and as an Iconic character but bad planning meant they haven't capitalised on it at all.

@Waddles -

You're spot on, it's very strange behaviour for WB as they'd have a built in audience.

@SimplyAz - I mean, they could have still worked with him. He (at least was) more than willing to continue. And one of the reasons people aren't happy with the black superman announcement is that it means no man of steel 2.

@Waddles - Nah WB doesn't need him, they already have Black and Latina superman coming out. Rumors say that Supergirl in The Flash is actually a female Kal-el and not Kara Zor-el (taking it with a grain of salt).

WB doesn't need anyone except a good director/writer who is allowed to cast anyone they want as the next Superman or Batman in which they already have.

Considering that leaked image got copyright striked everywhere and so aggressively, I'm kind of willing to believe Cavill is in this. Just feels weird that there's going to be a Superman and a Batman in the shared DC movie universe but the upcoming Superman & Batman films both take place in their own isolated universes.

@Waddles - a Nic Cage Superman cameo would break the fabric of the space time continuum. Lol

Cavill isn't even 40 yet and they're just wasting his time and hairline away. They need to decide what they're doing with him or reset the clock and cast someone 10 years younger again.

Somewhere out there, there is a world where WB didn't greenlight BvS, hired a different director to make a MoS sequel starring Cavill, and introduced a Batman in this world in a separate movie set in the same universe.

Somewhere, that world exists.

@WakandanQueen - Usually those rumors put a little more hype in the film. Maybe one day WB will take note.
