The recent Doomsday Clock comic book series saw Superman square off with Doctor Manhattan, but long before that was released, Man of Steel nearly featured a reference to the Watchmen character...

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder recently held a watch party for his 2013 movie, and there were plenty of intriguing reveals about his DC Comics adaptation. One of the most interesting, however, saw the filmmaker talk about almost including a nod to Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan.

In the movie, Mars is briefly seen on one of the government's screens monitoring the Kryptonian ship which launches from the Arctic, and it was there Snyder planned to include a big Easter Egg.

He explains that there would have been some sort of reference to Doctor Manhattan, though Snyder didn't specify whether he was going to be spotted on the planet or if we might have caught a glimpse of the palace he created. Either way, this would have suggested that Watchmen and Man of Steel take place in the same world, though we doubt it was meant to actually set the stage for anything.

Still, after Doomsday Clock, the thought of Superman and Doctor Manhattan clashing on screen is undeniably intriguing, and Snyder tying his films together like this would have been fun to see.

What do you guys think?

Correction @JoshWilding - I watched the whole watch party and there was in fact a shot later in the movie - right as the Kryptonian scout ship was breaking through the ice - that Snyder said “oh there’s the shot of Mars.” This was because the actor at the monitor was also in Watchmen. What wasn’t included is that Snyder said he almost had Manhatten on the monitor as well but didn’t because then it became more than just an Easter Egg.

Billy Crudop was the best casting in this film, by far. Really great work.

I saw Watchmen again recently and... am I the only one who found everybody's acting besides Patrick Wilson and JDM atrocious? The dialogue does not hold up at all...

In Justice League, Ezra is wearing a Black Freighter t-shirt, so I assume the movies are connected in some way.

Should we consider Watchmen DCEU? There nothing that actually contradicts that.

@GwenLantern - Batman's a comic character in Watchmen

@tmp3 - Sure, but he's a comic character in Bvs too.

On Wonder Woman's hotel bed, there are CGC graded 1st appearances for Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman. All from the golden age.
There's also a copy of Watchmen in both films.

@GwenLantern - Also, the Batman and Superman toys in Shazam further this notion.

That's my problem with all of this mess. He turned the DCEU into the world of Watchmen. A hopeless distopian shitshow. Superman exists to be a beacon of hope, not the enemy of mankind. The whole business with Pa Kent where he tells him that the world will be scared of him and all that is just whacked. And now it looks like dude will keep it going on the streaming service ad infinitum.

Humanity sucks!

There's a Comedian pin graffiti on a wall in the streets during Supe's fight with Zod.
