TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Reboot Could Start Production As Early As This Year TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Reboot Could Start Production As Early As This Year

The first two live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies were very poorly received and fans will no doubt be excited to learn that work on the upcoming third instalment is progressing rapidly...

Well, it seems as if the Michael Bay era of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies is at an end...maybe. As you may recall, the critical and commercial response to Out of the Shadows led to Paramount Pictures hiring Andrew Dodge (Bad Words, Space Jam 2) to pen the screenplay last June.

While we learned at the time that the studio was planning to reboot the franchise through this third instalment, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller remain producers through their Platinum Dunes production company.

That's not to say Bay will have much in the way of creative control, of course, as he was also a producer on Bumblebee and look what a departure that was from his Transformers movies! While the Heroes in a Halfshell will no doubt be brought to life with CGI again, the studio will have hopefully taken on board the fact that fans hated the massive, hulking versions from the past two films.

With that in mind, we may get both a more faithful take on the characters along with a less goofy tone (and an April O'Neil who isn't played by Megan Fox in what was one of the most baffling casting decisions in recent Hollywood history). This also means saying goodbye to Stephen Amell's Casey Jones!

Now, the producers of A Quiet Place have confirmed that production on the reboot could start as soon as this year and while they couldn't say anything about a director or cast, they did note that "we have dates we are trying to hit, that's all." They also point out that like the aforementioned horror movie, this new take will be all about a family trying to stick together.

Take inspiration from these two shows, and we could have a great movie

its not like they would ever use the tone of the original comics

@dracula - I agree. Those two shows, and the 1990 film, took inspiration from the original source material. Which was unquestionably the best incarnation.

Avoid the new show because WTF kind of surf induced nightmare is that?

massdeath - 1/14/2019, 3:02 AM
@massdeath - drug not surf. Although I’m intrigued by the idea of a surf induced nightmare!

@massdeath - They should also look at the idw books, i hear those are really good

@dracula - They just need to take inspiration from the current IDW run.

@dracula - The 2003 show was the perfect blend of the comics and the 80s cartoon. Stuck close to the source and took itself seriously but not too seriously.

@dracula - I just hope the turtles look "normal or familar". The michael bay produced ones were terrible and Shredder looked like a minny Megatron in the 1st film.

If the reboot is similar to Paramount's BumbleBee which focuses more on the characters & their relationship, they have my ticket! If not, I'm never paying for another shitty reboot from platnium dunes (michael bay).

Platnium Dunes have made some of the worst films: amityville reboot, a nightmare on elm street reboot, tmnt reboot, friday 13th reboot, texas chainsaw reboot, the purge franchise, etc.

Their only good films have been "a quiet place & ouija origin of evil" because those films had great directors.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Although it really went down hill after season 4

@mastakilla39 - they was on point with krane and beebop rocksteady r you serious the purge movies were on point

mastakilla39 - 1/15/2019, 5:40 AM
@chaney504 - Krane & Bebop's design were good, I didn't see the movie because everyone said it was terrible. A friend saw it and said they got the design of beebop and rocksteady right but the story/origins are terrible. Not even worth bootlegging or streaming for free in my opinion.

Purge franchise is terrible. Good concept but terrible execution, nothing happens in these films. Its just full of visual allegory of what people hate right now: white people, politics, & the rich, then has minorities or a "hero" murder them. It says nothing about society nor does it have any kind of meaningful message. I stopped watching it after the 2nd one, they are terrible films.

@mastakilla39 - it not meant to correct politics in stuff the goid thing about the movie is it shows something that can possibly happen in todays world now some of em wasnt that good but part 1 and the last one was

Can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get Joss Whedon in on this. I know that seems like reaching for the easy fruit but the guy excels at doing team movies with witty team dialogue.

And that's what TMNT is more then anything else. What makes it unique isn't them being mutants, ninjas, or turtles. All that is window dressing.

What makes it unique and worth getting invested is them being a superhero group of brothers. That brotherly relationship is what needs to shine through most of all.
dracula
dracula - 1/14/2019, 3:33 AM
@shadowspider9 - Joss needs to either do TMNT or Power Rangers, im sure he could work wonders with either. PS. Sarah Michelle Geller was April in the fully CGI TMNT film

Alright, let's get it right this time.

Please, please, PLEASE just faithfully adapt the current IDW comics.

As a die-hard fan of this property, the IDW iteration is the best source to pull from in order to stay true to the roots and still be fresh and new.

10 things wrong with the current Ninja Turtles Movies........

1 - Michael Bay was involved.
2 - The F'ed with the cannon too much.
4 - Meagan Fox is not April O'Neill
5 - Michael Bay was involved.
6 - The turles were too big and roided out looking
7 - Michael Bay was involved.
8 - The dialogue was cheesy and childish.
9 - Michael Bay was involved.
10- The CGi was dreadful !

@emeraldtaurus - You forgot their biggest mistake
MICHAEL BAY WAS INVOLVED
shadowspider9
shadowspider9 - 1/14/2019, 12:21 PM
@emeraldtaurus - I take issue with #2.
The IDW comics do A LOT different from canon. They change canon more then almost any other incarnation yet they are amazing. Often because of what the different canon lets them do.

TheUnworthyThor - 1/14/2019, 3:31 AM
Cool. Needs a reboot but I’ll always want more Ninja Turtles. Just take more inspiration from that 1990 movie that amazingly still holds up. I kind of wish Hasbro owner Ninja Turtles though.
