With Seth Grahame-Smith stepping aside due to creative differences, Warner Bros. has found a new director for
The Flash in the form of Rick Famuyiwa (via
Deadline). He's far from the more experienced hand it was rumoured the studio wanted, but Sundance hit
Dope scored great reviews, so they're clearly confident in his ability to helm the Fastest Man Alive's first solo adventure on the big screen.
Grahame-Smith wrote the script based on a treatment by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (a filmmaking duo Famuyiwa has worked with in the past), and the trade mentions:
"Warner Bros is looking for the right chemical mix on its superhero picture line based on the DC Comics heroes, and the feeling internally was that Famuyiwa provided a vision that would resonate with young viewers and that vision was very compatible with the script the studio is moving toward the start gate with."
Dope revolved around a teenager (and geek) trying to survive in a tough Los Angeles neighbourhood, and it will be interesting to see what Famuyiwa brings to the table. Ezra Miller is playing The Flash, and the movie is set to be released on March 16th, 2018. Do you think they've made a good choice here?
