We had previously heard that Thor: Love and Thunder star Chris Hemsworth's kids had been given minor roles in the Marvel Studios sequel, and the actor has now revealed which characters they'll be playing.

As many assumed, his son will appear as a younger take on Thor (he can be seen running during a brief shot in the first trailer), while his daughter - and here's where things get a little spoilery - will play a character called Love.

No, the movie's title doesn't just refer to the intense feeling of affection shared by the Odinson and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), as a character named Love will also feature. To explain any more by revealing exactly who she is or how she fits into the story would ruin certain plot points, however, so we'll leave it there!

I caught a press screening of Love and Thunder this morning, and you can find my initial thoughts below. Be sure to check back for our full review next Tuesday.

Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.

Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters July 8, 2022.

Looking forward to your review, since I learned the movie was just 110 minutes long, I lowered my expectations, I also read in some reviews the story goes too damn fast because of the short runtime.

A Thor movie is no place for kids, or humor for that matter.

@IcePyke - My stepfather used to rough-house with my brothers and I when we were little, and we loved every single minute of it. Definition of "boys will be boys." There's so much truth behind the sentiment.

@Origame - EXACTLY!. That's why when my kids are insolent instead of coddling them like RDJ above, I take a page from the Aussie playbook on child rearing because they know how to get shit done, and done right (I'm assuming that Chris is dangling his kid over a shark tank there to drive the point home that you say "Please" when you ask Daddy if you can play with the jellyfish - after all, "manners maketh the man"). That's why when my 6 year old refused to eat the rest of her veggies last night I promptly strapped her roller skates on, duct taped her hands to some bungee cords that I hooked up to the back of my car, and towed her up and down the street in front of our house which I had strewn with broken glass until she promised to finish those damn veggies.

Now, you might be saying to yourself "But Steven, surely if you use this approach every time she doesn't want to finish her veggies it's going to get predictable." BUT, that's where the bungee cords come it - she's never going to just when you're going to hit the brakes causing her to slam into the trunk, so it's different every time. See, that's the thing with kids - they get bored easily so you have to change it up. Parenting Tip #1. AND before anyone says "Well, surely you don't use the same technique with your 2 year old?" Absolutely not! What do you think, that I'm some kind of monster?!? Her little feet are WAY too small for those roller skates, she'll slip right out of them. Plus she'll never stay up for more than a minute, which is not nearly enough time to make your point. That's what the skateboard is for (doesn't work as well over the speed bumps though). See, you gotta think outside the box. Parenting Tip #2.

@marvel72 - Yeah, I took a long, well needed break.
I checked in and read stuff once in a while, and I saw that there are still some who are letting me still live rent free in their heads.
I noticed they kept calling other people me or mentioning me.
I must have made quite an impression.
Good to see you.

Some off topic Obi Wan Kenobi news:

Kenobi writer Stuart Beattie said that Reva as supposed to die at the end and not know that Vader was Anakin.

He was in charge of writing Reva and based on what he said below her character and explanation for motivations were so much better that what we got.

"Yeah, except the only little difference in mine was she didn't know Darth Vader was Anakin. Cause I was like, 'How'd she know that?' All she saw was Anakin as Anakin because he hadn't changed in the suit yet, right? So Anakin killed her friends, put the scar on her, almost killed her, left her for dead, basically. So, in her mind, the Jedi Council were the biggest villains in the galaxy. She believed the lies that they were plotting a coup to overtake and get power and all that, but they were stopped by the Clones. So she believed that's why she's hunting Jedi, because she believed the Jedi are the worst, basically."

Im calling it now. Gorr is the only serious character in this film and his scenes suck the life and joy out of the moment and instantly turns it to gloom and misery and people will be upset by it. Stranger Things succeeds in this. They make the characters joyful, innocent, and naive and then when the villain appears suddenly it's gloomy, haunting, and unsettling.
