That was, like, the main point of the storyline.

You change that and you change the character.

This is a mistake.

@Doomsday8888 - What exactly are you calling a mistake? They said they may use the story directly from the comics.

And although I agree they should stick to that story, the MCU was never meant to be a carbon copy of the comics. You can have Lady Thor with any number of backstories.

Isn't that the crux of the story?

I haven't read the storyline but, based on what I do know, wouldn't that be to crucial a thing to leave out? Though it's a tough decision because a cancer storyline might not gel well with a typical Taika comedy — that isn't to say that Taika couldn't pull anything off though.

I was wondering this when the film was announced, it be interesting to see him tackle this storyline in a single film on top of his tone in adapting the story.

I always assumed they would keep it since it such a huge part of the storyline in the comics but yeah a cancer storyline is a lot to address in a single movie with all this other stuff going on.
Vigor

@TheUnworthyThor - wouldnt be the first time they addressed cancer. Guardians 2 (& 1? Can't remember) had the plot of star lords mom
TheUnworthyThor
TheUnworthyThor - 10/15/2019, 3:27 AM
@Vigor - But this is different, this is a central character making a noble sacrifice in protecting the ten realms but by doing so essentially killing herself a little more in the process. It’s not impossible by any means but without knowing the story in mind who knows how much time we have to explore Jane’s journey.

@TheUnworthyThor -
It is completely possible. It's a very basic story of the character sacrificing something to be a hero.

It does not even need to be directly stated as cancer if they want to wuss out - they could just say that it damages her OR decreases her life expectancy each time she does it - which adds a sense of tension and a time limit to how long she can be a hero.

@TheUnworthyThor - I doubt this one would be a one n done. If Portman sticks around, I can see her being the heart of A-force (due to her sentimental journey) much in the way Tony was to avengers

I get that, it's a sensitive subject.

It would make for an interesting character arc, but the subject matter is sensitive as f*ck if not handled correctly. But I trust Taika to make it work whether he includes it or not. Something tells me he will since he's not one to shy away from sensible subjects even in his own style/hyper realities he creates. I mean, the guy just did a nazi satire where he plays Hitler.

I'm extremely curious how Thor factors into this movie. I feel like there's enough material to where Thor could be excluded completely and between Jane and Scrapper we get a great Thor film, but since he's going to be a focal point if not THE focal point, I'm wondering how his and Jane's arcs intersect

I know as soon as she does her first suit up he's gonna be singing this to Valhalla and back

Talka just made a movie where he plays an imaginary Hitler so I don't think we need to worry too much about whether or not he's willing to use the cancer beat, it's really just a matter of what sort of story he's trying to tell

Just say having the Aether inside of her is what caused her cancer.
MrDandy
MrDandy - 10/15/2019, 5:38 AM
Isn't her battling cancer kind of a centerpiece of the story? I mean what the point of doing this without it?

We need a World War Hulk movie "R" rated now !!! 2021

I'd love it if they told the entire Jane-Thor story in this movie.

Like "The Fault in Our Stars" with super heroes.

Love & Thunder really is the perfect title.

This shouldn't even be in question. They 100% have to do that story. But leave it to Taika to scrap it and turn this into another comedy.
