Photos from the Malibu set of Thor: Love and Thunder have revealed our first look at Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, and to say The Dark Knight star is unrecognisable would be an understatement...

We've known for a while that Christian Bale will be transformed into Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder, but a first look at the former Batman in full costume has now been revealed.

The prevailing theory was that the villain would be brought to life with visual effects, but it appears Marvel Studios and director Taika Waititi wanted to make sure we saw as much of Bale's performance as possible (no great surprise considering he's well-known for committing to the parts he plays).

As you can see, he's grey from head to toe and is wearing a pale cloak to complete the look. Bale does appear to have some prosthetics on his face, but it looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Gorr won't be quite as alien in appearance. We're guessing he doesn't have the Necrosword at this point, though that's something we will likely see brought to life entirely with VFX.

In the source material, Gorr's entire family was wiped out and he vowed to take revenge on the Gods who failed to save them. Hela wielded the Necroswords in the MCU, so we're betting that her death on Asgard is what leads to the villain gaining the powers he needs to take aim at Thor and the rest of Asgard.

@Doomsday8888 - love his Batman, but thinking about it, thats really his only really iconic batman lines.

All the other iconic lines are said by other people and he might repeat them at some point.

@dracula - he repeated that line too (or at least paraphrased it), Rachel said it to him first earlier in the film.

"and to say X would be an understatement..." Classic Wilding. This guy uses the same 4 sentences in all the articles he writes. Is almost... jaw-dropping.
