If you've seen
Thor: Ragnarok then you already know director Taika Waititi has quite the sense of humor. Some of that humor was put on display when the Marvel director took social media to thank those involved with
Justice League for "supporting" his movie with their own film's marketing.
Waititi brought attention to a clever reference he noticed in a
Justice League poster, referring to it as "subliminal love." Take a look at the tweet and you'll never view the
Justice League poster the same way again.
The lighthearted tweet is all in some good-natured fun as Waititi suggests that the studios and fans support both Marvel and DC at the box office.
Justice League sure could use some more support as the film
debuted to just $96 million stateside, the lowest opening weekend yet for a DC Films production. The film did bring in a respectable $185.5 million internationally, however, bringing its
worldwide debut total to $281 million. Analysts predict
Justice League could finish around the $700 million mark worldwide, which isn't bad, but surely not the return Warner Bros. was hoping for with its big superhero ensemble film.
Thor: Ragnarok, on the other hand, has simply been crushing it at the box office. After opening to $122 million domestically and $308.3 million overseas, the third
Thor film has
already crossed the $700 million worldwide mark in just its third weekend.
Perhaps it was the subliminal messaging after all. Or maybe
Thor: Ragnarok is just a really good movie. What do you think?
