With the Michael Bay-directed Transformers pentalogy firmly in the rearview mirror, Travis Knight's upcoming Bumblebee is all set to usher in a new age of Transformers universe movies, which should be welcome news for fans of all ages.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the story is said to follow 18-year-old Charlie Watson, played by Academy Award-nominee Hailee Steinfeld (Pitch Perfect 3), who finds herself in the adventure of a lifetime when her new car turns out to be an Autobot in hiding. John Cena (Blockers) and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Spider-Man: Homecoming) will also feature in leading roles alongside the titular Autobot.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

I'm actually looking forward to this one. Kubo and the Two Strings was great so hopefully the director makes a successful jump to live action.

Don't know why this movie is happening other than for monetary purposes, but I hope it's good all the same. He's still asking for trouble on Earth unless he looks like a car.

@MosquitoFarmer - well they're trying to turn transformers into a cinematic universe. Maybe even include gi joes into it as well.

"Don't know why this movie is happening other than for monetary purposes"

I got news for you that might seem ridiculous but hear me out.

Every blockbuster film in history was made for monetary reasons!!!

@LongMayHeReign - Money is an end game, but artists make art for art's sake. But why a movie about Bumblebee; I'm sure I don't know. Hopefully they came up with a good enough reason.

@MosquitoFarmer - I would agree 100% "IF" we were talking film in general, but remember I highlighted "blockbusters" of which Bumblebee is one.

In terms of Blockbusters it begins and ends with the studio that finances it, hence why so many big budget film fall victim to studio interference. If the film doesn't cost that much the studios usually just let it be, but with films that have franchise potential they only see $$$ which affects how they manage things.

Can't wait for this one. Even with a lot of trouble I like most of Transformers movies (except The Last Knight, that one is horrible).

I'm curious as to whether this or Aquaman will finish second place that weekend. I think Mary Poppins will be number one.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I honestly think Aquaman finishes #1 that weekend but not by much, a difference of maybe $10M where Aquaman gets $75-$85M and MP gets $60-$70M.

I’m gunna effing say it....I’m looking forward to this movie kinda. Just off the look of the transformers themselves makes me believe that this franchise can get a whole lot cooler without Michael Bay at the helm. I’m prepping for a good solid Better movie....but meh box office.
