BUMBLEBEE Spoilers: Breaking Down The Biggest Moments In The TRANSFORMERS Prequel

Bumblebee arrives in theaters a little later this week, and if you're at all curious about what happens in the Transformers spinoff, you may want to take a look at this spoiler-filled plot breakdown...

This December has been one of the busiest for big budget blockbusters in quite some time. Along with Once Upon a Deadpool, there's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Aquaman, Mary Poppins Returns and the upcoming Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee.

It's the latter we'll be focusing on today, as we delve into all the biggest moments from the movie.

Whether you've already seen it (there were preview screenings earlier this month both in North America and a number of other international locations) and want a recap or are just curious about what's coming and can't wait any longer, you'll definitely want to take a look at this in-depth breakdown of both the story and major surprises.

A Visit To Cybertron

In a move which I'm sure will delight longtime Transformers fans, Bumblebee kicks off with a visit to Cybertron. A war is raging on the planet and the Decepticons have the upper hand so Optimus Prime creates a distraction while B-127 (that's Bumblebee, to you and me) is sent to Earth in order to scout the planet and prepare for the arrival of the rest of the Autobots.

He crash lands in California and just so happens to interrupt a training exercise led by military man Jack Burns (John Cena) and it's then that everything starts going wrong for poor B-127...

B-127 Loses His Memories...And Voice

After being pursued by the military, B-127 is chased down by the Decepticon Blitzwing who attempts to force the Autobot to reveal what Optimus Prime has planned for Earth.

After he refuses (and it's worth noting that Dylan O'Brien is actually a great choice to voice Bumblebee during these opening few minutes), the villain destroys his ability to speak and damages him so badly that his memory is erased. B-127 manages to destroy Blitzwing before shutting down and taking on the form of an old VW Beetle to protect his identity.

Charlie Meets Bumblebee

It's at this point in the movie that we're introduced to Hailee Steinfeld's Charlie, a great female lead who has a love of cars and is something of a rebel. After discovering the Beetle at the garage she visits to salvage parts for her dad's old car, she manages to talk her way into being allowed to take it home and Charlie quickly gets to work repairing the scruffy looking vehicle.

After inadvertently activating the Autobot (and a tracking beacon), the two meet and she names B-127 "Bumblebee" because he's yellow and had a beehive in the wheel arch when she found him.

The Decepticons Invade

Once the aforementioned tracking beacon is activated, Decepticons Shatter and Dropkick are made aware of Bumblebee's presence on Earth. It just so happens that they're in the middle of interrogating the heroic Cliffjumper and he ends up being executed as they come up with a plan to track the Autobot down. Posing as heroes and claiming that B-127 is a fugitive, they start working with the government.

Bumblebee Is Captured

After some entertaining misadventures (which include Bumblebee learning to communicate through his radio), Burns' Sector 7 and the Decepticons finally manage to track the Autobot down and capture him. Charlie is sent home and made to look like a liar, while the interrogation of B-127 begins.

With their villainous nature revealed, the two Decepticons depart after killing a scientist and leave Bumblebee for dead upon realising that he no longer has a voice or any intel on Optimus Prime's plan. They do, however, see a message sent by Prime that leads to them trying to warn their fellow Decepticons that Earth is where they must come next.

Death Of A Hero

In a real tearjerker of a scene, Bumblebee dies in front of a tearful Charlie but she has the idea to try and wake him up by blasting him with some of the electric weapons the military has been using.

Thankfully, he revives and the duo set off to stop Shatter and Dropkick from finishing a beacon which will bring the Decepticons to Earth and put the planet in serious peril. Burns' men pursue them.

The Final Battle

What follows is an epic final battle which sees Bumblebee destroy Dropkick and then, with some help from Charlie, blow Shatter up by crushing her with a ship. The beacon has been stopped just in time and Burns realises that B-127 is indeed a hero and lets them both go before his men arrive.

However, what leads to him deciding that Earth can actually trust the Autobots? Well...

Burns' Redemption

During the course of the final battle, Burns attempts to take down Autobots and Decepticons alike but when Dropkick destroyed his helicopter, his fate was pretty much sealed...until Bumblebee rescued him. That and seeing him in action is what seems to change Burns' mind and it wouldn't actually be all that surprising if he were to return somewhere down the line to back these Transformers up.

One thing it's hard not to wonder while watching this movie is what the present-day versions of characters like Burns and Charlie must think of the war which eventually breaks out on Earth!

An Emotional Farewell

Realising that Bumblebee has an important role to play on Earth and is going to be found if he returns home with her, Charlie is forced to say goodbye to the Autobot and, well, you'd best bring a tissue! The scene plays out in front of the Golden Gate Bridge and after spying a snazzy looking Chevrolet Camaro, Bee changes his appearance much to the shock of his friend.

It's then that we get to see Bumblebee racing away across the bridge with a very familiar looking truck and this ending perfectly sets the stage for what happens just seconds after the credits roll.

The Post-Credits Scenes

Yes, that was indeed Optimus Prime and the two Autobots walk through the forest together talking about the battle to come. The camera then pans up and reveals that more Autobots are on their way to Earth, presumably setting the stage for a sequel or, if that doesn't happen, 2007's Transformers.

We then return to Hailee Steinfeld's Charlie who is working on her dad's Corvette, and she finally manages to get it running. We then see her driving that on the open road which doesn't exactly set up the sequel, but does bring her story arc to a nice close.

I actually hope this serves as a reboot and I hope ''the plans for earth'' relate to only one thing. And not four different mcguffins (all-spark, sun harvester, portal pillar things and earth being unicron).

Also, wasn't Hasbro making their own shared universe based on their toys? Because then I hope this is the first entry in that franchise

Hmmm if that's Optimus at the end doesn't that basically wipe out 2007 Transformers as optimus landed in the middle of the film

This is more of a reboot than a prequel, at least I'm hoping and that's how it felt watching. Obviously they learned their lesson. Here's to an mcu-esque shared universe! I wonder if they're still doing the cybertron movie. Oh hell yeah!!!!!

So like with most movies or reboots or whatever this is going to be its changing the timeline from previous movies. If you remember the first TF movie only Bumblebee was on earth, once things got going then the other autoboots came here including Prime. So when the hell does this take place or is this a reboot for sure? Because if Prime is there at the end of this one then how is he back on Cybertron at the first movie?
