It's already grossed well over $1 billion worldwide, but that's clearly not enough for either Paramount or Michael Bay! The movie, which received mixed reviews from critics, is heading back to IMAX theaters after being digitally remastered for the "IMAX 3D Experience." Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the following excerpts.

Paramount's blockbuster Transformers: Dark of the Moon is being re-released in Imax theaters for an extended two-week run, beginning Friday. Transformers: Dark of the Moon: An IMAX 3D Experience has been digitally remastered with proprietary IMAX technology.

According to insiders, Dark of the Moon will play in 246 Imax theaters in North America from Aug. 26 to Sept. 8. During those two weeks, the film will play simultaneously with other movies already booked by Imax.

UPDATE: Here is the official press release, issued a few moments after this news broke.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the third film in the blockbuster Transformers franchise, is returning to 246 IMAX domestic locations for an extended two-week run from Friday, Aug. 26 through Thursday, Sept. 8. During those two weeks, the 3-D film will play simultaneously with other films in the IMAX network. Since its launch on June 29, Transformers: Dark of the Moon has grossed $1,095 billion globally, with $59.6 million generated from IMAX theatres globally. ”Transformers: Dark of the Moon: An IMAX 3D Experience" has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology for presentation in IMAX 3D. A thousand years in the future, humanity will look back on our generation and will think that we must've been idiots because we spent billions of dollars to watch two and a half hours of robotic dick & fart jokes.... meanwhile Michael Bay's ego swells.

Kinda makes sense because the movie is best seen in IMAX 3D and it only had about 3 weeks playing in them before Potter bumped it out of all the IMAX theaters

The first hour of the movie was horrible. Im expecting robots kicking ass and the first scene of the movie was a scene of a chicks ass. That was the first time ever I was a little mad of seeing a girl in her panties. When I pay to see Transformers I pay to see robots kicking ass. Not to mention I had my little brother with me. But after that first hour the movie picked up tremendously. I absolutley loved the invasion scenes. I give this movie a 4/5.

This movie's only been out a month and a half, why was this not done in the original run? Unless it really is the money grab we all know it to be similar to TDK to try and push the records.

Thanks for whoring out the Transformers, Bay and Paramount. Would someone respectable take over already.

How much re-mastering could they possibly do to make this worth the watch? The movie came out almost two months ago. Well, I'm sure dumbasses will go to see it anyway so it's not like it was a bad idea on their part. -__-

One of the best films of the year IMO, don't think I'll see it in the IMAX rerelease but I'm definitely nabbing the DVD.
