ARROW: Emily Bett Rickards Announces Her Exit Ahead Of The Eighth & Final Season ARROW: Emily Bett Rickards Announces Her Exit Ahead Of The Eighth & Final Season

It appears Arrow will be without at least one of its core pieces when it returns for its final season this fall as Emily Bett Rickards has announced she will be exiting the series at the end of this year.

Original Team Arrow is losing one of its founding members as Emily Bett Rickards, who plays Felicity Smoak, has somewhat shockingly announced that she will be exiting the series after the currently ongoing seventh season.

Entertainment Weekly has since confirmed the news and have shared the following statement from executive producers Greg Berlanti and Beth Schwartz, “We’ve had the pleasure of working with Emily since season one and in those past seven years she has brought one of TV’s most beloved characters to life. And although we’re heartbroken to see both Emily and Felicity leave the show, we’re completely supportive of Emily and her future endeavors. She will always have a family at Arrow.

At this moment in time, it doesn't look like Rickards will appear in any capacity during the coming eighth and final season, but considering her character was recently revealed to still be alive in the year 2040, it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility that she could maybe appear again before the series comes to a close.

Rickards will end her run as the third-longest tenured member of the cast, having featured in 154 episodes when Season 7 concludes.

With Rickards out of the picture, the current Season 8 cast will presumably feature Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Katie Cassidy, Rick Gonzalez, Juliana Harkavy, Colton Haynes, Audrey Marie Anderson, and Sea Shimooka.

But wait just one minute before we go and do all that For this makes me out of breath To have this not small chat Felicity and I are a very tight two But after one through seven we will be saying goodbye to you I thank you all for the time we’ve shared The elevators we have climbed The monsters we have faced and scared And The burgers we have dined I will keep her in my heart for always And I hope that you can too Because she would not be alive if it weren’t for all of you 💕 Love, Felicity and Me

This is a pretty big shock tbh. As long as her absence makes sense story-wise, then fine. But really surprised that she wouldn't stick around for the final season. Especially when she mentioned how emotionally impacted she was with the news that the show would come to an end.

Perhaps this has something to do with the season 7 finale that Amell said caused the hair on his arm to stand up. Just will be weird to have a season of Arrow without the OTA group of three.

@HeavyMetal4Life - to be honest I hate this news. I loved Felicity the first few seasons, but i was always of the mind that the Green Arrow should eventually end up with his soul mate The Black Canary, so I wanted Olicity to end eventually. But when it was announced next season was its last and it's a shorter season, I'm like well now theres no time to let that story line play out naturally so I guess I'd rather they just keep Felicity till the end since she played the character for every season of the show. Better keep Oliver, Felicity and Diggle around was my thinking... but now that she won't be around for the final run I'm disappointed. Makes me wonder what's gonna happen to her, and if that future storyline is really our future or actually an alternate timeline or a simulation of a possible future or idk...

@HeavyMetal4Life - plus I really don't understand why actors and Studios and what not dont wait to post these things till the morning after her final episode premiered, like "yes Felicity really did get abducted by aliens and that was my final episode of Arrow, I love you all and thank you for..." type of thing. These announcements kinda ruin any Game of Thrones like shock when a main character get taken out of a program.

@Nerdman3000 - I know! She just went from being good to annoying! Wish she had left much sooner.

I wasnt the biggest hater of her character but I'm glad she's leaving. Her character became pretty unnecessary. And I cant stand her "serious" acting.

She is nice to look at but often painful to watch. Hope she gets a decent send off either way.
