ARROW Episode 208 "The Scientist" Poll & Discussion

Someone to an arrow to the knee. The actual Arrow (Stephen Amell) got his butt handed to him. And the mere namedrop of a Batman Begins villain sends a Dark Archer scampering. And oh yeah, some guy names Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) made his debut.

What did you guys think of Arrow episode 2x08 "The Scientist"? It's the first of a two-part mid-season finale which means all the immediate questions raised this episode won't have their answers revealed until next Wednesday. Once again, the fight scenes are what really shines on the show, James Bamford can do no wrong in my book. A tv show has to keep their display of super powers very minimal so they don't burn through their budget, yet Arrow still captured super strength perfectly. Going up against a pseudo-Solomon Grundy (Graham Shiels), Arrow got punched, kicked and thrown all over the place. These scenes could have looked extremely fake, making it obvious the actors were on wires but the editing and stuntwork by the Arrow team was top-notch.

Looking online, the consensus seems to be that Grant Gustin works fine as a tv Barry Allen, but most were having a difficult time envisioning him working alongside Superman (Henry Cavill) and Batman (Ben Affleck) in the Batman vs Superman movie. What that means for The CW shows being connected to the DC Cinematic Universe (DCCU) is anyone's guess.

Line of the night goes to Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson) who sent Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) running scared when she said Ra's Al Ghul would be coming after him. The wtf moment of the night went to Oliver who shot Roy (Colton Haynes) in the leg with an arrow when he began interfering in his investigation in Brother Blood's (Kevin Alejandro) Miralco/Miracle serum. You really couldn't think of a better way to stop Roy, Oliver?

"A seemingly impossible robbery at Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division brings Central City police scientist Barry Allen (guest star Grant Gustin) to town. Citing a similar case back home, Barry offers to help Oliver (Stephen Amell) and team with the investigation. Oliver senses there is more to Barry than meets the eye, but he’s distracted by the similarities between this current case and something that happened on the island. Meanwhile, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) takes a liking to Barry, which doesn’t go unnoticed by Oliver. Sin (guest star Bex Taylor-Klaus) asks Roy (Colton Haynes) for help when a friend of hers goes missing. Roy is surprised when Thea (Willa Holland) not only encourages him to help, but joins the search. Unfortunately, Sin’s friend is connected to Brother Blood (guest star Kevin Alejandro), and their search ultimately gets one of them seriously injured. Michael Schultz directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kresiberg and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg & Geoff Johns (#208)."

The CW Arrow season 2

"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine."
