Arrow season 2 premiere City of Heroes
Lets start with the ratings. Arrow returned a bit lower than expected but on par with the season one average. The industry expected the season premiere to be much higher - its 2.7 million views/0.9 demographic rating were down from the season one premiere of 4.1 million /1.3 demo. Still, its numbers were good enough to just barely keep Arrow as The CW's most viewed show so don't be concerned just yet. The test will be in the coming weeks and whether the show holds steady or enters a decline. It should also be noted that all of the Wednesday shows posted lower-than-expected ratings.

There were also a few Easter eggs in the pilot episode that may become important as the season progresses. Did you catch them?

Before cutting to news of Oliver Queen's return to Starling City, the newscaster can be heard stating, "...a representative from Central City's S.T.A.R. Labs says the particle accelerator will be ready by Christmas." Will this have something to do with the creation of The Flash? It's possible, chances are that was not a throw away line. Also, the anchor, Bethany Snow is a DC Comics character and follower of Brother Blood who was also referenced in this episode. Blood will be played this season by True Blood alum, Kevin Alejandro.

In Oliver's absence, copycats of 'The Hood' (aptly named The Hoods) have sprung up and they're willing to use gun down anyone who gets in their way, including law enforcement. A similar event occurred in The Dark Knight's opening scene with Scarecrow. Will Starling City host more copycats or vigilantes dispensing lethal force in episodes to come? A little birdy tells me it's a strong likelihood.

Moira Queen is being held in Iron Heights prison. A notorious maximum-security prison from DC Comics which typically houses the super powered criminals of Keystone and Central City. The prison also made an appearance in season one of Arrow.

"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine."
