ARROW Spinoff Series Will Officially Be Titled GREEN ARROW AND THE CANARIES ARROW Spinoff Series Will Officially Be Titled GREEN ARROW AND THE CANARIES

Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) journey may be coming to an end, but it looks like the Green Arrow's story is far from over.

It was reported last month that The CW was moving forward with a female-centric Arrow spinoff that would star Katherine McNamara (Mia Smoak/Green Arrow), Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance/Black Canary/E-2) and Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake/Black Canary E-1) in the lead roles, and it sounds like filming has finally commenced on the pilot.

Both McNamara and Harkavy shared videos to mark the first day of filming with the former also confirming that the potential series would indeed be titled Green Arrow and the Canaries, a title that was initially revealed via an artwork poster released by executive producer Marc Guggenheim last week.

It should be noted, however, that The CW has only ordered a backdoor pilot for now, so it'll probably still be a while before we learn whether the network will actually order it to series for the 2020/2021 television season.

With filming now underway on the pilot, which will seemingly be the ninth episode of Arrow season eight (and penultimate episode of the series overall), it seems as though filming on the five-part "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover may be soon coming to a close as actors and crew return to their respective productions.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Obviously a Birds Of Prey show they just cant call it Birds Of Prey. Wonder who will be the Oracle type characters, they probably cant use Barbara Gordon and Felicity's time in the Arrowverse is over. Maybe Wendy Harris a Proxy. Wonder if we will get a Huntress or if Mia is just going to fill that role

@dracula - Well, now that Batwoman is a show, they actually could use Barbara Gordon I would imagine.

@HeavyMetal4Life - with the batgirl movie in development it seems unlikely. She was apart of the tnt version of titans and now she isn’t apart of that show

Hmm I don't know I find the future storyline extremely boring I usually just fast forward those parts. Guess we'll see how it turns out.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - People have wanted a Birds Of Prey show for a while. They said they were developing 2 arrowverse shows, hopefully the next one has a male hero, even out the amount of male led shows and female led shows

@dracula - I'd much rather take a Birds of Prey series over this, and certainly over whatever the hell that movie is we're getting.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - This is basically a birds of prey series, they just cant call its birds of prey. Mia is probably filling the huntress role, and we will probably get an Oracle type character

The CW really seems to love this "Quantity > Quality" thing

Why is the DC CW getting woman-washed? Supergirl? OK fine. Batwoman? A stretch, but whatever. Now this. And yeah, they got The Flash, but let's be real, it's Iris's show.

Black Lightning the only dude left, lol. I'm all for diversity and equality, but this weight scale is tipping over.

@KWilly - Well....it's more that those are some of the only characters that they're allowed to use. Do you have any suggestions for more male led shows?
KWilly
KWilly - 10/21/2019, 3:30 PM
@Nightwing1015 - Yeah, gimme my Batman Beyond show, lol. Would've rather CW spent their budget on that than Batwoman.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 10/21/2019, 3:38 PM
@KWilly - They probably couldn't do that in the main universe because it's set in the future.

Also, do you really want the CW to butcher Batman Beyond?

Good point.

@KWilly - Well we have Supergirl and Batwoman for women led shows, Legends of Tomorrow which is a team show, we have Black Lightning and The Flash for male led shows. Now we are getting a Birds Of PRey show with female leads. They have said they are developing another show, hopefully that one is male led

Ugh. Mia....

Just finished last season. Beginning was strong with the prison stuff and then the back half got pretty flat and boring. A step up from season 6, but not much of one. Hopefully this last season finishes strong.
