A recent social media post from Arrow's Stephen Amell has led to speculation that we could see characters from the world of Smallville make an appearance in Elseworlds, but here's what's really happening.

This year's Arrowverse crossover will visit both Gotham City and Metropolis, thereby making it perhaps the biggest event The CW has ever launched. There are bound to be some huge surprises, with one of the most significant - John Wesley Shipp's return as the 90s era Flash - having already been revealed.

There should be some more, though, and a recent social media post from Stephen Amell has led to speculation that we'll be visiting the world of Smallville and crossing paths with Tom Welling's Clark Kent and Michael Rosenbaum's Lex Luthor.

Pretty exciting, right? But as great as it would be to catch up with those characters, don't start re-watching Smallville in anticipation; the reality is that Amell was meeting with the actors about his wine company, Nocking Point Wines. They're presumably going into business together and probably met on the convention circuit as Amell, in particular, makes a killing on them.

It's possible that we'll see the cast of Smallville show up in the Arrowverse at some point but don't expect it to happen in Elseworlds! What do you guys think? Share your thoughts in the usual place.

Would have been really cool. But when do we ever get what we want?

Why would Amell do that to us???

Seriously though, next year's crossover should have a small appearance from someone in that world.

@Nightwing1015 - who knows. Trolling to distract from another surprise like a gotham crossover perhaps? Maybe this is all to make us dismiss their interactions so their actual appearance could be even better (remember they arent specifically saying they arent in the crossover). Or maybe since he isnt a guy particularly invested in all things comic book, maybe it just slipped his mind that hes taking a pic with the former smallville stars when an event is coming up about these worlds crossing over. I mean, would you have thought this was building up to a crossover if this was tweeted sometime after the crossover?

@Origame - No way a Gotham crossover is happening. They are different networks and Gotham is ending anyway. I think Gotham should remain its own thing for the time it has left. Especially since we're already getting a version of Gotham in this crossover.

But let's hope Smallville does play a part in some way.

So cool to see Tom Welling step back into the Smallville spotlight, ever since Rosenbaum convinced him to go to that comic con.

I was rewatchimg Reckoning the other day...

Its weird, and this is no slight against the CW shows, but Smallville, as sometimes corny and cheesy as it was, had a GROUNDED REALNESS to it in regards to LOSS. The loss on that show really hurt. Felt genuine in this poignant way. There was a weight to it that set it a part.

You can't not tear up

@BlackBeltJones - How I see it

S1-4 > Every current CW series. Excellent
S5-6 - Still very good
S7-10 - Goes down a bumpy hill from here

I'm gonna go ahead and call bullshit on this one.

Stephen Amell is having a meeting for his wine company, posts on twitter about it, and the two people he just happens to be sitting down with are Welling and Rosenbaum?

Like I'd buy that it was a coincidence if it were just Rosenbaum or Welling solo (and maybe someone else, unrelated to Smallville), but the fact that its' the two of them and JUST the two of them?

C'mon, something's up.
