Despite assurances from various people that Jerome Valeska would not actually become The Joker, these new BTS images from the set of Fox's Gotham definitely seem to suggest differently. Take a look...

We were told that Cameron Monaghan's deranged Jerome wasn't actually a proto-Joker at all, but here we find the young actor suited up in a very Clown Prince of Crime-like getup on the set of Gotham.

As you can see, Monaghan is sporting the pale face, the red lips, and a variation on the Batman villain's classic outfit. Curiously, though, Jerome's prominent facial scars seem to have disappeared.

Does this mean that Monaghan will actually be playing both Jerome and The Joker at the same time? That would gel with some of the fan theories, as well as some recent, cryptic comments from executive producers John Stephens and Danny Cannon.

Gotham returns later on tonight, so perhaps we'll get some answers then. In the meantime, check out the snaps at the link below and let us know what you think.

He has too much Burton style.

"Burton moderate"

"Uncontrolled Burton"

@Repian - I mean....

If there’s ONE good thing I can say for the show is it feels Burton influenced visually with this dark gothic noir German Expressionism version of Gotham rather than modern day Nolan like.

So guess it fits

@Repian - Reminds me of the 1940 early Joker look when Bob Kane/Bill Finger had him sporting a hat and trench coat.

@Repian - They went "Full Burton"... And I love it!!! He kills it as Joker and I can't wait for more!

@LEVITIKUZ - I've always felt that way. It is dark and violent but not afraid to get a little campy like the Keaton Bat-flicks

@Repian - Never go full Burton.

This is why I can’t get into this show nor could I get in into Smallville as kid

These shows are basically Batman & Superman Babies

“Hey want a Batman show without Batman but with Joker, Riddler, & Penguin?”

“Hey want a Superman show without Superman but with Lex, Metallo, & Doomsday?”

@LEVITIKUZ - At least on Smallville Clark was basically doing everything Supes would do but without the suit or flying. Gotham feels like Batman would be pointless because the cops stop everyone

Speaking of Joker, here’s the launch trailer to Telltale’s season finale

Boy does it look like good

@Kevwebsz - I mean sure but when Smallville was on when I was a kid, it still felt pointless

My thoughts as a kid with Smallville were “I don’t care for teenage Superman, I want real Superman”

@LEVITIKUZ -
Because it's not a Batman show, and it never has been. It's a Gotham City show that explores the origins and various facets of the lore. No one ever promised Batman, and plenty of comics do this all the time. Series like Gotham Central, Catwoman, Arkham Asylum: Living Hell, Batwoman, ETC, barely feature Batman, if at all.
