What are believed to be some BTS photos from a "flash-forward" episode of Gotham season 5 are now online, and they feature Penguin and The Riddler looking very much like their comic book-counterparts...

It looks like a couple of Gotham's most nefarious criminals are going to be getting a major comic-accurate upgrade at some point during the fifth and final season of Fox's Batman prequel series.

The following behind-the-scenes shots are believed to be from a "flash-forward" episode (possibly even the series finale), which will find older incarnations of Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) and The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) looking a lot more like the classic interpretations of the DC Comics villains.

You may also notice - and here's where things could get a bit spoilery - that the last image hints at the pair being caught and left hanging by a certain Caped Crusader, who is expected to put in an appearance at some point during season 5.

Check out the pics below along with a new Scarecrow-centric promo.

Gotham returns for its final season on January 3, 2019.

Not a big fan of gotham but i got give it points for referencing one the greatest batman stories. No mans land.

Wish it would get a full adaption.

I tried watching the first season and made it halfway through... It somehow soured the taste of DC in my mouth just as much as the big screen these days.

I was upset too, because I loved Smallville. However, maybe that was due to my age at the time and the limited quantity of high quality superhero shows.

@LiteraryJoe - Season 1 was bad,but later show becomes better,im mainly watching for actor who plays Jerome/Jeremiah aka Joker,he is doing great job and making this show way better when he is around.

@LiteraryJoe - the worst thing about Season 1 is Jada Pinket Smith. Fish is a lousy character and Jada way overdoes it. Once they phase her out it gets much better!

@LiteraryJoe - Smallvile still stands as one of the best tv shows out there. I honestly enjoy watching it more than arrow, flash.

@LiteraryJoe - the ONLY part with her that I liked was a when she digs out her eyeball in front of Hugo Strange!

The 2 things Gotham does better than almost any other CB show (yes, I just said that), is portraying villains (some like Professor Pyg were super production quality) and portraying Gotham, the city itself. From the bars to the docks, industrial sites, prisons, asylums, cemeteries, streets, police stations, gardens, everything, it looks unbelievable. Other than that, the music is often great, but that's about it.

The fact that so many actors outside of the villains are terrible, and I mean terrible actors portraying terrible takes on the characters, makes it hard to watch. The "theatre feel", that everything is always acted like a theater performance, over the top and corny, is for me the nail in the coffin. I watched everything up to this season, but I really can't anymore.

Riddler looks decent. Penguin is a bit much.

This version of Scarecrow looks terrific! Not bad at all for a tv production

Yup...buying a monocle. I'm sure I can get one in my Rx. I've wanted one for years. It will look wicked sharp with my handlebar mustache and Tweed Tartan hat.

Mr Freeze also needs a definitive look.

@Repian - I prefer the full containment suit rather than having the arms exposed. The N52 suit is sleeker and he looks cooler, but it makes him look like he just can't breath normal air instead of being a whole body problem. + I love how he looks like a tank in all the heavy armor (love the Arkham games design), he sticks out from the other ice users who are slick (Killer Frost, Captain Cold, the Icicles, Iceman).

Riddler needs a green bowler hat and his cane. Other than that, I like it.

One of the things I've enjoyed about this series has been the gradual evolution of the villains. Well done.

Not a fan of the writing on Gotham or most of the CW shows, but I do like when they really go for the more comic stuff and don't try to shy away from those aspects of the characters.
