The live-action Swamp Thing show has added its first major cast member.

According to Deadline, Crystal Reed will play the female lead role of Abigail "Abby" Arcane in the James Wan-produced DC Universe streaming series.

This small-screen take on The Earth Elemental's longtime love-interest is described as "smart and caring; a strong sense of empathy puts her at the center of a horrific life-threatening epidemic in her hometown, where she faces emotional demons from her past."

Reed has appeared in the likes of Teen Wolf and Pascal Laugier’s film Incident in a Ghost Land. Most recently she played Sofia Falcone on another DCTV series, Gotham.

Swamp Thing is being developed as a one-hour show, and has Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) and Gary Dauberman (It) on board to write the pilot. They'll also executive produce alongside Michael Clear and James Wan. Len Wiseman will helm the first episode.

I'm not usually a stickler for characters looking exactly like they do in the comics, but in this case Abby's distinctive hair is a big part of her character so I hope they grey this lass up a bit.

I think she fits the role very well. It's nice to see this is moving forward. I thought the old USA Swamp Thing was great for it's day. Watching it now it doesn't fully hold up, but that's the case for almost all shows from that era. We've gotten too used to the quality of effects both practical and digital getting better and better on a TV budget.

I do hope a tease of some of the other JLD make an appearance even if it's the final scene of the season finale. As everyone Matt Ryan as Constantine would be the best appearance.

@clarksupermankent - Some have pondered the same. It'd be interesting in a way of speaking.

But then I take a look at all the current DC shows fandoms and I end up remembering that, surprisingly, it isn't Arrow the one with the worst fandom but actually Supergirl who has it and I just want Shelley to stay as much as away as possible from such a toxic environment. It was enough already back then in Teen Wolf and that's all I am gonna say about the matter. (I don't wanna spoil anything at all to the user here called TheDoctor122)

@NinnesMBC - Realy ?I didn't Know Supergirl have à Toxic Fandom ,I mean it not look like a show who gave people so much expectation they became crazy about it . at least Arrow was very good in season 2 but supergirl it's Meh for the beginning until now

@NightwingNad - It does, it wasn't like that before. It was okay-ish in S1 but then when Katie McGrath joined the show in S2 it went down the toilet because for some reason that escapes my inferior cis heterosexual mind she (yes, SHE) and her character of Lena are totally gay for Supergirl and since then the SuperCorp fandom has done nothing but harass everyone in the show and other fans and it still is going. It's a mess on it's own class that might be uglier than Olicity. So that's why I said that.

As always this experience has proved to me that the small fandoms in these type of entertainment end up being the best ones compared to the big ones who are just obnoxious and loud and arrogant. And I really do not want that to any actor and actress that I'm invested in. Sure Tyler Hoechlin can handle it cause he hardly ever got hate for his character in TW and so can Shelley but I think it was enough in TW just to risk it in repeating it again here so I'd rather she (and other TW alumns) keep branching out to other roles.

That's just me though haha.

If the trailer for Titans was great, and a different actress was cast as Starfire...people would be mega-pumped for DC universe.
