THE FLASH: Grant Gustin Promises A Return To The Show's "Fun" Roots In Season 4

Season three of The Flash took a dark turn, especially after we learned Savitar's true identity. Now, Grant Gustin has addressed that and promises fans that the series will return to its roots this fall.

The Flash has always been a fun show with some serious moments but season three of The CW series took a dark turn which soured many fans on Barry Allen's adventures. Things became so grim that the Scarlet Speedster was ultimately revealed as being the big bad and things wrapped up on a particularly depressing note when the hero essentially sacrificed his life by trapping himself in the Speed Force.

In a new interview, The Flash star Grant Gustin has addressed where the show went wrong and promises that Barry will be undergoing something of a personality change when he finally returns.

"That was always the goal for our show was we were going to be the lighter, funnier show. And you know, sometimes storylines just take you where they take you. I think just because of all the time travel that Barry Allen did, and all the repercussions it had, it took us down the “Flashpoint” road, if you will. We really didn’t do “Flashpoint” for long, but we dealt with the repercussions for an entire season. Barry wasn’t only the big bad at the end of the year, but he was kind of the villain of the season because it was his fault that everything happened. So we’re going to get back to our roots a little bit, and because of this experience in the Speed Force, Barry’s able to let go of things and move on, and he’s able to help the team move on, and the show can get back to its original roots where Barry enjoys having these powers and has fun, and the whole team has a little bit more fun."

It's a relief to hear that Barry will no longer be moping around the place and that the show is going to return to its roots as Arrow more than enough darkness and that tone really doesn't suit the Flash.

In season four, the hero will be facing off against The Thinker, a villain who isn't actually a speedster. That alone should shake things up a little so it will now be interesting to see where things go from here.
