It Looks Like The Y: THE LAST MAN TV Series On FX Will Continue Despite Trouble Behind The Scenes

It Looks Like The Y: THE LAST MAN TV Series On FX Will Continue Despite Trouble Behind The Scenes

Well, it seems like Y is getting into trouble before it even gets off the ground, and with trouble behind the scenes and people leaving the project, will the series be able to make it's 2020 premiere?

Earlier this month it was reported by Bleeding Cool that FX had cancelled Y, it's television adaptaion of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra's widely celebrated and Eisner award winning Y: The Last Man comic series. That report was quickly amended, however, after a tweet from co-creator Pia Guerra helped set the record straight.

It turns out that the showrunners, Aida Mashaka Croal and Michael Green have parted ways with the project. According to Jon Solberg, Fx's VP of Public Relations stated that the showrunners left due to creative differences and that the network is planning to move forward with the show featuring the same cast.

Interestingly, the comments from the showrunners themselves actually seem to contradict that statement, however. Take a look for yourself.

"Sad news for fans of Y: THE LAST MAN today. FX has decided not to move forward with our series in its current form. We are grateful for everyone who came together to make our pilot and build the world of Y… Our writing staff, director Melina Matsoukas, DP Rodrigo Prieto, and cast including Lashana Lynch, Barry Keoghan, Diane Lane, Imogen Poots, Amber Tamblyn, Julianna Canfield… And of course, the minds who started it all, Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. We hoped to reward their talent and their trust not just with success but with a show that had something to say, in a time when things must be said. As Y fans ourselves, we hope the future allows just that." - Aida Mashaka Croal & Michael Green

So, the good news is that we will still be seeing a series in some shape or form, that will at least feature the same cast as was originally reported. Bad news is that we don't really know what that's going to look like now, or how long it may be delayed for...

If all goes well, will premiere on FX in 2020.
