GAME OF THRONES Star Sophie Turner Confirms The Final Season Will Debut In 2019

Even though it's been somewhat expected, it looks like we've finally received official confirmation that the eighth and final season of HBO's hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones will indeed debut in 2019.

For the past several months now, it's been heavily rumored that HBO's Game of Thrones wouldn't return for its highly-anticipated eighth and final season until at least 2019 and it looks like after months of speculation, we've finally received confirmation from one of the show's stars.

In an interview with Variety, star Sophie Turner, who has played Sansa Stark on the hit series since its inception, confirmed that Thrones, as expected, will return for its curtain call in 2019. When asked about her upcoming year, she replied, "Yeah, I’m really excited. “Game of Thrones” comes out in 2019. “Dark Phoenix” is in November. Then I have a couple indie movies coming out. I’m a producer on my next movie [“Girl Who Fell From the Sky”]. So I’m really excited about the future."

Turner also confirmed the final season's production schedule, which, as previously reported, did begin in October and will film deep into 2018, meaning a summer release date was almost always out of the question. "We started in October, so we’re maybe like a tenth of the way through. [Laughs.] No, no, we’ve got six or seven months left." She continues on a little further to tease Sansa's post-Littlefinger arc as she reunites with her brother-turned-cousin Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and faces the unimaginable combined threat of the Whitewalkers in the North and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) in the South. "It’s going to be tricky for her, because at the end of last season, she felt that she had everything set up. She had her family back together. They were in control of the North again. This season, there’s a new threat, and all of a sudden she finds herself somewhat back in the deep end. And without Littlefinger, it’s a test for her of whether she can get through it. It’s a big challenge for her, without this master manipulator having her back. This season is more a passionate fight for her than a political, manipulative kind of fight." However, when pressed on whether she'll actually see any zombie action, she coyly replied, "Well, I don’t know. We’ll have to see."

In Season 7, Daenerys Targaryen has finally set sail for Westeros with her armies, dragons and new Hand of the Queen, Tyrion Lannister. Jon Snow has been named King in the North after defeating Ramsay Bolton in the Battle of the Bastards and returning Winterfell to House Stark. In King's Landing, Cersei Lannister has seized the Iron Throne by incinerating the High Sparrow, his followers and her rivals in the Sept of Baelor. But as old alliances fracture and new ones emerge, an army of dead men marches on the Wall, threatening to end the game of thrones forever.

Just three months ago, I started watching this show and I've loved it so far. I finished all the seasons so far and I'm looking forward to the final season.

Remember that pretty much every scene needs to be filmed in the snow, It will take longer than the previous seasons as there is only about a 4 month window for filming. It will give them more time to work on effects and plan out action scenes so I think it will be worth the wait. Besides I live in Alberta where they do some of the filming and I don't feel like shoveling snow, so they can take their time and I can save my back.
