Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will not be attending San Diego Comic-Con this week, HBO announced.

The two showrunners were slated to appear at the Game of Thrones panel on Friday, July 19, but the last minute change to the original lineup - just two days before the panel - was announced on Wednesday with HBO claiming (via CNET) it was "due to production and scheduling conflicts."

The duo are currently working on a brand new series of Star Wars films.

The disappointing announcement comes on the heels of Game of Thrones receiving a historic 32 Emmy nominations for its final season, including a nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (for the series finale The Iron Throne). But despite the record number of Emmy nominations, the final season of Game of Thrones was met with mixed reception from fans, and San Diego Comic-Con was set to be the writers' first public appearance since the divisive finale aired in May.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss aren't the only ones skipping the event, as director Miguel Sapochnik and actors Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont) and Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei of Naath) are no longer attending either. Still scheduled for the panel are Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Conleth Hill (Varys), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark).

The Game of Thrones panel will be held on Friday, July 19 at 5:30 p.m. in Hall H.

Pulling out the day before the panel is pretty wild. Gotta wonder how the people who planned their whole Friday around this panel feel about this

Wise choice.

Unpopular opinion: I think the white walker episode should have had a bigger body count, and it is weird that Jon’s heritage didn’t amount to much. But otherwise the final season was perfectly decent.
