AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 First Look Reveals The Team's New Director

A new official image from season six of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been released, and it reveals who will be leading the team in what will presumably be Agent Coulson's absence after his apparent demise.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won't return until next summer but filming is already underway, and TV Line has now shared a first look at the new Director: Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie (Henry Simmons).

As you'll no doubt recall, season five ended with the ailing Phil Coulson preparing to meet his maker and while his future in the series is something of a mystery, we were left to assume that he died in Tahiti and the remaining S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will have to continue on without him.

"Personally, I love the challenge of being the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Simmons tells the site. "Mack has worked side-by-side with the people he now leads, and that works to his advantage — he’s one of them. But the one thing that can hinder Mack’s ability to lead is his reluctance to put the people he loves in the line of danger."

"As a result, this may lead to Mack’s toughest decision as director. What sacrifices will be made?"

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming back for a shortened 13-episode season and it's already been renewed for a 13-episode seventh season so there's clearly plenty of stories left to tell, Coulson or no Coulson!
