ARMOR WARS: Don Cheadle-Led Marvel Studios Series Finds Its Head Writer In BLACK MONDAY's Yassir Lester

It looks like Marvel Studios is setting up a Black Monday reunion, as they've tapped Yassir Lester as the head writer for their upcoming Armor Wars series starring Don Cheadle in the lead role.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Marvel Studios has enlisted Yassir Lester (Black Monday; GirlsThe Carmichael Show) as the head writer for their upcoming Armor Wars Disney+ series, which will see Academy Award-nominee Don Cheadle (Avengers: EndgameNo Sudden MoveBlack Monday) reprise his role as James Rhodes/War Machine.

Lester, a talented stand-up comedian-turned-actor and screenwriter (as well as a hilarious Twitter follow), is an inspired choice for the series as it will be his first big-budget action/adventure superhero project. Luckily, he'll be in his comfort zone as the move will reunite him with his Black Monday co-star Cheadle. He's served as one of the main writers and co-executive producers on the critically acclaimed Showtime series since its inception in 2019.

No word on when the series will head into production, but it seems like cameras could roll before the end of this year or possibly early 2022, so expect additional casting news to come sometime in the not-so-distant future.

Plot details remain under wraps, but Cheadle has previously said that the fallout from the death of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in Avengers: Endgame will play a major role in the events of the series while also exploring a whole new side of Rhodey.

As always, Kevin Feige will produce for Marvel Studios. The release window is TBD, but the series will be part of Phase 4.
