Ever since, and even before, it's release on Netflix, Daredevil has been receiving much positive reception from both fans and the general audiences alike, with one of the only backlashes and criticisms involving the design of Daredevil's upgraded outfit that is supposed to resemble, or be a work in progress of, that character's most primary and prominent suit worn throughout the comics and other different mediums. Even though the outfit is red, many people still see problems with the design of the outfit overall, which is why I'm here to explain why and how this is a suitable costume for the character within the ever-expanding mythos of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It must be understood that the costume of Daredevil wasn't changed just so he could look and whatnot, it was changed to meet the needs of Matt's war against crime as Daredevil. More specifically, his black spandex ninja-like costume wasn't providing him the support he needed for the purposes of combat and going against such threats i.e. Nobu, hordes of thugs, etc.  Therefore, wearing a similar outfit to 2003's Daredevil wouldn't have the most sense because the material in the suit and/or leather spandex wouldn't have made the greatest difference in terms of an upgrade from his black costume attire in the series. On the other hand, the upgraded costume he received in the series heighten's his chances of not running into a series injury dude to the suit's capbility of being slightly invulnerable to knives and bullets. It could also be noted that a few character's recommended that he'd get an upgrade in the first place.

Without a doubt, 2012's The Avengers had a huge impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe with key events such as The Battle of New York, which involved the team going against the Chitauri invasion headed by Loki. Although it could be hard to imagine such an event sharing the same universe with the gritty, brutal, and dark Daredevil series, there was still a few nods to the event present in the show, which would be seen on newspapers, mentioned by characters, etc. However, it could also be very possible that this event had an effect on Daredevil's upgraded costume.

Within the series, it is Melvin Potter, who is known by Gladiator in the comics, is the one who designed and made the upgraded suit near the end of the season since his profession, in the series and comics, is costume designing/criminal outfitting, so Potter is one of the most suitable people to go to for an upgraded outfit. With that being said, it's safe to say that he was most likely inspired by Captain America's suit during The Battle of New York.
It cannot be forgotten that The Battle of New York was a massive event and posed as an endangerment to many parts of New York, including Hell's Kitchen to the point in which it'd be impossible not to know about it; it's an event nearly everyone in New York witnessed and also marked Captain America's first public outing within the modern time period, who also had one of the most grounded outfits on the team. With Daredevil looking toward's the goal of being the city's savior, it would make sense for Potter to be inspired by Captain America's outfit since both characters are highly-centralized in the areas of being a hero.

Although it could be noted that the show's producers found various costumes of Daredevil, such as his Secret Wars outfit and his Armoured Black outfit, this could be a possible explanation, within the show's universe, of why the costume turned out the way it did and so those in disagreement with the looks could understand the suit's actual purpose and possible background details of the design.
