TFATWS Actor Wyatt Russell Has No Interest In Playing Snake Plissken In ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Reboot

As far as we know, a remake of John Carpenter's classic Escape From New York is still in the works, but TFATWS star Wyatt Russell has zero intention of taking over from his father as Snake Plissken...

The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell is said to be developing a remake of John Carpenter's dystopian sci-fi classic Escape From New York, but if the project does end up moving forward, it definitely won't be with Wyatt Russell.

Russell has been making quite an impact as John Walker/Captain America on Disney+'s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which has led to a lot of fan-support for him to take over from his father, Kurt Russell, as badass anti-hero Snake Plissken.

However, the actor has no interest in following in his dad's footsteps.

“Although that’s very kind, that will not be happening," Russell told Esquire when asked about a potential reboot. "There will be no Snake reboot from me, that’s like career suicide 101. That’s like what not to do. I don’t know if anybody else could be Snake Plissken. Good luck, go get ‘em, I sincerely wish you the best of luck. I just don’t know how it’s possible. And for me, if I really wanted to get people sending me hate mail, I think that’s what I should do. I will not be ever doing anything like that.”

Russell's stance on this matter is understandable, as it's difficult to imagine anyone wanting to step into Snake Plissken's shoes, let alone an actor who'd be compared to his father's take on such an iconic character for the rest of his career.

At any rate, the Escape From New York remake is not a sure thing, as Whannell revealed during a recent interview with ComicBook.com.

"I don’t actually know, I really don’t," said the filmmaker when asked for an update on the status of the project. "That is an iconic character and I think that Snake Plissken is a part of people’s childhood and their adolescence. It’s near and dear to them. So I would tread very carefully with that.

What do you guys think about the prospect of an EFNY reboot? Are you disappointed that Russell won't be playing Snake? Sound off in the usual place.
