THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Spoiler Recap And Discussion For "One World, One People" THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Spoiler Recap And Discussion For "One World, One People"

Today's The Falcon and The Winter Soldier delivered plenty of big twists and turns, and we're now taking a closer look at everything that played out in this in-depth recap of "One World, One People."

By JoshWilding - Apr 23, 2021 04:04 AM EST

We kick off this week's final episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier with Bucky arriving in New York. After meeting with Sharon Carter (who was called in by Sam), they attempt to put a stop to whatever the Flag Smashers have planned for the members of the GRC who are about to vote on the controversial bill that will send those left behind after the Blip back to their own countries.

No time is wasted in introducing us to the new Captain America, though he soon finds his hands full when Batroc appears. Karli distracts Bucky while her crew make off with the hostages, and Sam takes flight after besting Batroc to try and save a few GRC members who are being taken to "safety" by helicopter.

We soon learn that Karli doesn't care whether she has to abandon her plan to hold them for ransom, and she makes it clear that killing them will still have the desired impact. An extended action sequence follows with Captain America flying through the skies in pursuit of that chopper, and he ultimately manages to take out the pilot and save those aboard as well as a couple of New York City cops caught in the crossfire.

Bucky, meanwhile, confronts the Flag Smashers with John Walker, and is left struggling to get the hostages to safety after one of Karli's people sets the transport they're in on fire. Walker is out for blood, but finds himself overpowered. While all this is happening, Karli pushes the other vehicle into a nearby building site, leaving the former Captain America with a choice: take his revenge or save those inside from a huge drop. He does the right thing, but is soon knocked out of the way, leaving Sam to save the day and the lives of these GRC members.

The Flag Smashers make a run for it, but Sharon catches up with Karli (who reveals that Carter is, in fact, the Power Broker). Batroc appears and figures out that Sharon hired him, but she guns him down and takes a bullet from the super soldier. Bucky and John lead the rest of them into a trap where the NYPD is waiting, while Sam arrives on the scene and makes it clear to Karli that he won't fight her because he wants to help. She's having none of it, and just as she's about to gun him down, Sharon kills her.

A devastated Sam hands her body over to the authorities, but puts the GRC in their place with a rousing, inspirational speech that's 100% Captain America. He does all this in front of the cameras, and we see Isaiah Bradley watching on from home. The Flag Smashers are seemingly about to be broken out by a loyal supporter, but the transport they're in is blown up...by the old man who was shown serving Baron Zemo a few episodes ago. In The Raft, Zemo hears the news on the radio, and lies back, satisfied with a job well done.

John Walker is given a new costume - and title - by "Val," and seems very happy as the new U.S. Agent. Bucky, meanwhile, makes amends with Yori and the rest of the people on his list (he leaves his book with all the names crossed out as a gift for his psychiatrist). Sam meets with Isaiah and Eli, and talks about what it means to be a Black Captain America. He then takes them to the museum dedicated to Steve Rogers and reveals a new wing that has been created to ensure the world knows the sacrifices Isaiah made as a super soldier. He's grateful, and Eli (Patriot in the comic books) looks pretty inspired.

In the final scene, Sam and Bucky enjoy spending time in the former's home surrounded by friends and family. Sam puts his arm around Bucky as they enjoy the party, and the series gets a new title: Captain America and The Winter Soldier. In a mid-credits scene, Sharon is pardoned by the U.S. and given her old job back. Making a call outside, she talks about how valuable having access to that intel will be. Who is she talking to? We don't know, but can't help but wonder if this will tie into a certain upcoming invasion...

I think I liked Wandavisions finale a little more. So much shaky cam, and idk why they didn't even have a discussion with Walker and Bucky/Sam, also I felt the end with Nakajima could have gone on a little longer. It was still a great scene but they could have elevated it to another level, like with Sam and Isaiah. Also how tf are they not wore tapping Sharon's phone considering she was a former enemy of the state lol. Seems out of left field with that story beat. She was stoic and patriotic as Peggy, up until now lol. Also the cringe at times, oh my. Ending monologue from Cap was awesome and the suit looked great!

@bobevanz - also the Skrull thing is wishful thinking for Sharon. I hope it's true, otherwise they re wrote a character for shock value, also where tf was Steve! Is he really dead? Did they seriously skip over his funeral?! It would have been nice to have Sam at least get a phone call from him, oh well..

"Who is she talking to? We don't know, but can't help but wonder if this will tie into a certain upcoming invasion..."

Dammit Wildling, stop taking my theories lol.
But yes thats my first thought. Here is evidence to back my theory

* Even the mask thing she does this episode (that black widow used in cap 2) is a wink to the audiences. They wouldn't outright show her changing to green skin because those reveals would be saved for Secret Invasion.

* there has been a skrull in every marvel production from Spiderman far from home, to now

* her actions all throughout this series

* it's confusing to have two people building some team (i.e. thunderbolts to dark avengers) in the same series. I saw a theory she is leading up to thunderbolts. But.. from a story telling standpoint it doesn't make sense when we have Val building "something" as well.

In conclusion I believe between Val building a team and Sharon's shady actions, it's clear where phase 4 is going.
Disclaimer for those who haven't had their coffee and woke up choosing violence, ITS JUST A THEORY

Overall, I liked the series. Didn't LOVE it, but I liked it a lot. It was the perfect -- back to the old recipe -- that I needed after WandaVision. It touched on some very sensitive topics but never really dug deep into them. It was what it needed to be to get characters and plot points in certain places for theatrical films.

Would recommend. 4/5

@VicSage -

Finale was a 6/10 for me.

Only thing I can say I really enjoyed was seeing Sam finally as Cap! Aerial fight scene with the shield was done well. Costume looks good too.

Everything else, not so much.

The editing and cuts and even choice of camera shots were off and all over the place during the whole New York scene. It felt very TV-ish, but Agents of Shield had better editing than this episode honestly.

Power Broker reveal was anti-climactic. The end fight was even more anti-climactic. End credits didn’t do anything for me either.

The John Walker reveal could’ve been done better, him being so goofy at the end with Julia Dreyfus was weird. Although the helmet joke was funny.

I wish the Russo’s could’ve come back for this one, maybe directed 1 episode. A finale with the Russo touch would’ve been nice.

As for the whole series it just felt uneven.

1st episode was a 9/10, then the 2nd an 8/10, but as it kept going on, the lower my score went.

Flagsmashers felt like an Agents of Shield type villain. Bartoc had more personality than the group. Sharon Carter was just “there”, until they made her the PB. Valentina was off-putting. There were too many filler scenes in every episode.

This series at times felt like a movie and times felt like an episode of AoS. I too preferred Wandavision over this.

The Good: Anything Captain Falcon or Winter Soldier related was great. Mackie and Stan have some of the best chemistry in the MCU. Just hope we get a S2 or a new movie from it.

Action was solid. Cinematography was on point.

Isaiah Bradley scene at the end was pure gold.

Aaand US Agent was pretty good too.

The Bad: Flag Smashers were the weak link in the show. MCU kinda still has a villain problem, but it's whatever.

Sharon Carter was just burning calories. Like I don't give af if she's the Power Broker or not, lol.

Other than that, I think this show was A material.

Good finale and great show overall, although I'm curious to know how much better it would've been without the pandemic. I say that because I know Feige and team are still learning TV production, but it'll be interesting to see how they grow from their experience here and the various reactions to the final product

The Flag Smashers really never coalesced with the themes of the story and their death really felt kinda cruel, considering how sympathetic the show seemed to want them to be. Sam's speech actually made me feel for them more than most of the episodes did. But aside from that and some wonky plotting surrounding Sharon, they really nailed the big swings and hit that niche the movies have been perfecting, albeit on a slightly smaller scale. It was really nice to see a fight in a big city again

I do think they need to keep exploring blip and post blip society. That's a goldmine and Sharon and Hawkeye are good examples of what time and this unique tragedy can do to characters, and the possibilities of Secret Invasion makes for some interesting twists that they can sew in as well.

All in all, great companion piece to Wandavision, as this one left me with that typical post-MCU watch grin, especially when that new title card flashed on screen

I guess when you are making a TV show and want to cover you don't have the same sort of budget you shoot night scenes and in the building only have red emergency lighting...Game of Thrones Finale memories for sure.

Why did they bother Introducing John Walker in this series? All that build up and the last episode he shows up with a garbage can lid and no one is phased by it lol!

On the politics sometimes less is more folks...Sam Wilson is def a cool character but when his speech runs too long, you start feeling like your a being preached to. Too overtop!

I think the last time I saw a Helicopter Rescue scene that far fetch and just bad was in Ironman 2.

Boy, I wish I could have that reaction. Like, I wonder what it would be like to be a black man in uniform with the expectations of everything that uniform stands for while also still having to deal with the same shit black people usually have to deal with, like getting pulled over by a cop on the way to get my registration renewed because I just got back from a long ass deployment, and having the cop say "oh, hey sorry, I didn't realize you were in the military! I wouldn't have pulled you over."

Oh, wait, hang on sec.

That was just a routine event last week.

That speech only sounds preachy to you because a) it clearly doesn't affect you, so b) you really don't give a shit, which highlights the problem, c) not everything needs to be written in ways YOU need to relate to. Your perspective isn't the only one, especially when there are legitimately people in the world actually trying to make a difference when cynics like you scoff at our efforts.
