We had heard that Marvel might be developing an Ironheart series for Disney+, and the news was confirmed during Disney's recent Investors Day, along with the announcement that If Beal Street Could Talk actress Dominique Thorne would be taking on the lead role of Riri Williams.

Now, Thorne has spoken about landing the part for the first time during an interview with BlackFilmandTV.com to promote her new film Judas and the Black Messiah, and while she obviously couldn't say too much, she did confirm that she knew of the character before being approached by Marvel and is currently doing plenty of research.

"Absolutely. I think my mother might disown me if I didn't," said Thorne when asked if she was aware of the comic beforehand. "It's very much a Marvel household. I did know about Ironheart before I was approached with the role. So it was it was an awe, inspiring moment to think that I would be chosen to portray this woman and to bring her to the screen in this way. So yeah."

The actress went on to discuss what attracted her to the project, and what she hopes to be able to bring to the role.

"For me, at this point, it's really about the story. That's what many of us who enter into this profession think. What draws you in is the the ability to tell stories that mean something to people. In high school, the motto was to empathize, to empower, or to educate and so that is what I still abide by today. So hopefully, I'm involved in a story that is doing that.

There are real people with real stories and real emotions at the center of it. Even if it's not my experience or your experience, it allows somebody the opportunity to be changed; the opportunity to have their mind expanded or get educated in a new way. I think that's one of the most beautiful and powerful things that this form is capable of."

We really don't know a whole lot about Ironheart at this early stage, but the show is expected to stick pretty closely to Riri's comic book origin as "the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man." Will she ultimately take over from Tony Stark as the MCU's Armored Avenger? It seems like a safe bet.

Are you guys looking forward to Ironheart? Let us know in the comments.

@InfinitePunches -
Monica did discuss what she would need to reenter the Hex and it sounded a lot like armor. Safe bet it's her.

@MyCoolYoung - Sounded like he was being certain. And then answering a question about it. If this was just speculation, of course that would be fine.

@PantherKing -
Missed that. BTW, the funky X-Ray kind of points to her already being Photon or something. Do you think she already has powers?

I feel like Ty Simpkins will also be featured in the show as Iron Lad

Assuming Pepper or Rhodey will visit her and endorse her to become a hero since Tony is dead.

@Waddles - Yea I figure it will be Rhodey. And you would figure she would look up to him in that armor.

In the comics, she's a big fan of Mae Jemison and that's the reason she wanted to be a scientist.

Usually when they cast someone and announce it this early, means they are going to show up somewhere before their solo outing.

My guess is she'll appear in Armor Wars first before her own series.
