Jeph Loeb Confirms Marvel Television Is Also Developing New Shows For Disney+

As we all know, Disney+’s slate of original programming includes a number of series focused on popular characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Loki and Falcon & The Winter Soldier. Now, however, we have confirmation that Marvel Studios won’t be the only ones to produce shows for the upcoming streaming service.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Jeph Loeb discussed what’s in store for the future of Marvel Television and revealed whether his division will also develop any new shows for Disney+.

“Well, first of all, I have to make something very clear, which is those are shows that are created and run and the responsibility of the motion picture studio,” Loeb said, making it clear that Marvel TV isn't involved in the development of the new series from Marvel Studios. “Secondly, Marvel Television will be doing shows with Disney+, we just haven’t announced what we’re going to do there.”

While the Marvel Television chief didn’t shed any more light on what they have planned for Disney+, he did add that official announcements will be made when they’re ready.

Of course, even without these mysterious Disney+ shows, Loeb and his team are already set to expand Marvel’s vast reach with new Hulu projects like Ghost RiderHoward the Duck and The Offenders.

@JohnnyStorm - They would have to either neuter DD or totally reboot it as PG-13 plus they would have to wait until 2021 to do so. So nuh unh.

@JDL - We have to wait until 2021 for almost all of these Marvel Disney+ shows anyway.

@JDL - Iron Fist (the comic character) would easily in the tone of the movies. It was a mistake putting him and Luke on overly adult shows to begin with.

@JDL - absolutely DD needs to just go on Hulu. My guess is Hulu will be Disney + sister site for all the shows that are above pg13.

@JohnnyStorm - Daredevil will return in Spiderman 3. You'll see.

@whynot - you're forgetting about FX as a possible destination for the devil of hells kitchen and mad Frank castle.

@whynot - They are locked out of the IP until at least 2 years after the last appearance of a character on Netflix. And they are locked out of the actors and scripts for longer than that. Best estimate us 10 years and possibly forever.

@SnapperCarr - Well Barton, Romanoff, & Rogers (leader) are gone from the second team leaving just Sam. Presumably we are going to get Kate Bishop so Danny Rand could take Nat's spot but odds are over-whelming that Shang-Chi gets that. As for Cap Luke Cage would make sense for everything other than being the leader.

So sorry, still no place for Danny unless they double up on the hand to hand types, which might not be a bad idea.

@sickboy76 - Too expensive for them imo. The cost to Marvel was something over 2M an ep and F/X can't afford that.

sickboy76 - 8/13/2019, 8:42 AM
@JDL - it'll still be produced by marvel won't it? Just shown on one of their channels with content for particular audience. Just as likely there as on Hulu right?
JDL
JDL - 8/13/2019, 2:15 PM
@sickboy76 - Netflix paid for the these up front. The costs here aren't GoT level but they were a good bit higher than normal shows. It was $200M for 4 sets of 13 plus 8 Defenders.

@JDL - yeah that's fair but I can't see it being on Hulu either.

@GeneralZod - agents of shield should have introduced them. Biggest fail on marvel tv side.

We can count out the characters from the cancelled Netflix shows. I say characters and not the shows themselves since most of the actors have moved on to other projects. Buuut, the ban on those characters may be lifted by then, so who knows?
eagc1995
eagc1995 - 8/12/2019, 7:14 PM
@comicfan100 - The Netflix characters are mostly likely going to Hulu, as D+ will only include projects that are G, PG and PG-13, Hulu will be past for anything beyond PG-13
