LOKI Showrunner Says The Disney+ Series Will Focus On The God Of Mischief's "Struggle With Identity"

Aside from the basic premise (and some unverified rumors), we're not too sure what to expect from the Disney+ Loki series, but showrunner Michael Waldron has now given fans a little more to go on...

Tom Hiddleston's Loki has always been a fairly complex fella, and it sounds like the upcoming Disney+ series is going to delve a little deeper into what makes the God of Mischief tick.

The character was introduced as a villain in The MCU, but often flirted with taking on a more heroic persona before returning to his devious ways. However, in Thor: Ragnarok he appeared to join Thor and finally seek true redemption... before being killed off in Avengers: Infinity War.

It's assumed that the version of Loki we meet in the series will be the one from Endgame's alternate timeline, but it sounds like he's still going to be facing something of an identity crisis.

Here's what showrunner Michael Waldron had to say on the Forever Dogs Podcast when asked what fans can expect from the show.

"I think it's the struggle with identity, who you are, who you want to be. I'm really drawn to characters who are fighting for control. Certainly you see that with Loki over the first 10 years of movies, he's out of control at pivotal parts of his life, he was adopted and everything and that manifest itself through anger and spite towards his family."

So, while this take on Loki will probably still be a villain at first, this does suggest that he will struggle with his heroic nature, and may even wind up helping someone aside from himself.

Loki plot details are still under wraps (although a recent batch of set photos did give us a bit more to go on), but the synopsis tell us that the mercurial villain resumes his role as the God of Mischief in a new series that takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Kate Herron will direct, and the show will also feature Richard E. Grant, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino in undisclosed roles.
