LOKI Star Sophia Di Martino Rumored To Be Playing The Female Version Of The God Of Mischief

In the comics, Loki became a woman for a time, and it now sounds like that may be the plan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well, with Sophia Di Martino reportedly sharing the role with Tom Hiddleston.

On Friday, it was revealed that British actress Sophia Di Martino was in talks to join the cast of Loki on Disney+. At the time, there was speculation that she could be playing Enchantress or another Marvel Comics character from Asgard, but it now appears her role is even bigger than first thought.

According to Deadline, "One source close to the production hints that Di Martino may in fact portray a female incarnation of Loki and, in effect share the role with Hiddleston."

The character has been portrayed as female both in the Thor comic book series and a YA novel by Mackenzi Lee called Loki: Where Mischief Lies, which saw the God of Mischief portrayed as both gender-fluid and pansexual. Given the way the Marvel Cinematic Universe is transitioning into a new era of storytelling, chances are Di Martino would inherit the role from Tom Hiddleston.

That would then set the stage for her to appear as this new Loki in Thor: Love and Thunder, a movie which will also introduce a female version of Thor played by Natalie Portman.

We'll have to wait and see, but coming from one of the trades, this rumour is obviously a lot more trustworthy than what's found on social media and various other scoop outlets!

Some people will probably not like this, even though happens in comics, but to those who dislike this sort of change need to remember that Marvel were the OG ‘woke’ comic book publisher. Their stories about the X-Men, Spider-Man and so forth were all symbolic of things in society that were feared or suffering from prejudice towards them.

Seems strange that when they make moves today they are attacked for tokenism, when I would say they’re are simply carrying on a long standing tradition of tackling everyday issues.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - Hopefully it turns out better than it did for Doctor Who. Although to be fare, the writing for Doctor Who was going down hill even in the Peter Capaldi seasons.
