After a brief misunderstanding, the writer clears up a few ambiguously-worded signals about the future of the Marvel comedy pilot.

Earlier this week, New Warriors Showrunner Kevin Biegel discussed the topic of Beefsteak, specifically the annual Beefsteak charity event attended by many prominent writers and actors in the Hollwood comedy biz. On Twitter, he mentioned as an aside how writers would often talk about how their pilots hadn't gotten picked up by networks, as the event came during the time of year where networks start making final decisions as to what shows get a shot for the upcoming fall season. Some interpreted the initial phrasing of the tweet to mean that New Warriors had gotten the axe after being pulled from the Freeform network late last year. Biegel was more than happy to dismiss the notion, however (especially when the tweet was misunderstood by the host of Beefsteak, Matt Selman).

What is clear though is that it means, at this point, that Marvel is still pursuing New Warriors for it's planned 2018 release, wherever that may be. Reportedly Marvel is now limited to platforms owned by Disney itself, so while Netflix will continue to air and produce its current housing of Marvel shows, we won't see that kind of deal made with an outside company anytime soon. Whether that means it could end up at partially-owned Disney ventures like Hulu (which, should the Fox deal go through, Disney would gain a majority stake in in 2019), return to Freeform, or possibly make it's way to the primetime big leagues at ABC (who were also the home of Kevin Biegel's show Cougar Town for six seasons). It's also been speculated that, while outside Marvel's intended 2018 release date window, that it could end up on Disney's upcoming digital streaming platform, (which already has one Marvel show announced as being in development for the service, as well as multiple Star Wars television series).

@Mercwitham0uth - Damn straight. I hoped Marvel was going cancel in favour of my Squirrel Girl movie. Now we'll have to sit through a few seasons of NW before Marvel realizes what a goldmine a Squirrel Girl movie is.
