THE PUNISHER And JESSICA JONES Have Now Been Officially Canceled By Netflix

THE PUNISHER And JESSICA JONES Have Now Been Officially Canceled By Netflix

Just like Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist before them, Marvel's remaining two shows on Netflix have now been cancelled, but we will at least still see Jessica Jones season three. Read on for details...

It was a month ago that season two of The Punisher quietly launched on Netflix and, as expected, the online streaming giant has now pulled the plug on Frank Castle's small screen adventures.

That's not the only blow to Marvel fans today, though, as Jessica Jones will also end with its third and final season. That's not actually a surprise, either, but it is a somewhat unexpected move for Netflix to make this official before the next batch of episodes debuts (then again, they don't seem to really care about promoting these shows at this point anyway).

"Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix," Netflix confirmed. "Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and
exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come."

"In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones. We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others."

"We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning."

This now marks the end of Marvel's partnership with Netflix which began in 2013.

It was to be expected, though, as Disney makes move to launch its own Netflix rival in the form of Disney+. The studio has started pulling content from the online streaming service and Marvel Studios is even working on shows revolving around characters like Loki and the Scarlet Witch.

This news about the last Marvel shows standing on Netflix comes moments after Jon Bernthal posted a cryptic message to social media which led to many fans assuming a cancellation was looming.

Whether or not these characters will return or be rebooted remains to be seen.
