Marvel Studios has released what we're assuming will be the final character poster for What If...? ahead of Wednesday's finale, and it puts the spotlight on a Gamora decked out in Thanos-style armour.

We're less than 48 hours away from the season finale of What If...? arriving on Disney+, and this latest character poster puts the spotlight on a new Gamora Variant. As you can see, she's clad in armour that's strikingly similar to what Thanos donned during the events of Avengers: Endgame

We know this Gamora isn't from the reality where Ultron killed the Mad Titan because we saw the Guardians of the Galaxy fall victim to that seemingly unstoppable android in last week's episode.

This Gamora has actually been present in marketing materials since day one (she's even part of that range of collectable LEGO Minifigures), so her debut isn't a massive surprise. However, we're definitely anxious to learn what leads to The Watcher recruiting this Variant for his Guardians of the Multiverse; of course, if she's anything like dear old dad, Gamora should be a force to be reckoned with.

We don't know if Guardians of the Galaxy star Zoe Saldana will reprise the role for What If...? as she was absent from the Star-Lord episode that featured many other members of the team. However, it would make sense for her to have picked up where the reformed Thanos left off after he met T'Challa.

We'll have to wait and see, but expect this episode's title to be revealed a little later today or tomorrow.

I stopped What If...? after the party-Thor episode. I just had no desire to watch another episode.

I am now waiting for Hawkeye, impatiently.

@Waddles - I'm sure they were good eps, i just lost all interest in the show generally. Like aggressively apathetic towards the final 2 haha. If that makes sense to anyone but me.

Clearly didn't lose enough interest to not click on What If articles to complain about Party Thor 🙄

What if the Eternals weren't lazy f%@!s and helped the Avengers defeat Thanos?

What if Spider-Man died during IM2 attack (A world without Spider-Man)?

@UXASIS - But…but….but…..the celestials…..non-interference…….retroactive continuity plot device……

@UXASIS - I'm pretty sure there is more to the Eternals not intervening than them being "lazy f*cks".

We know this Gamora isn't from the reality where Ultron killed the Mad Titan because we saw the Guardians of the Galaxy fall victim to that seemingly unstoppable android in last week's episode.

Wait that's right. We saw Gamora on The Sovereign after Ultron took all the stones from Thanos. So then who the [frick] did Thanos sacrifice to get the Soul Stone. Plot hole man!
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 10/4/2021, 8:07 AM
@JFerguson - if Thanos really loved his other children even a little bit I guess anyone would do the trick, "a soul for a soul".
it might also be a continuity error born of using the Guardians 2 opening scene as a visual reference.
youy can also chalk it up to "rule of cool", it's awesome to see Ultron go all out and achieve that level of power so canon be damned.
JFerguson
JFerguson - 10/4/2021, 8:18 AM
@Spidey91 - So you mean they intentionally ruined the canon for clout? Oh no, I knew it was gonna happen eventually, after Thor, an alien from another planet, threw a party on earth and didn't get nuked for it.

MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 10/4/2021, 8:29 AM
@JFerguson - well they did try to nuke him and it's a what if? What if Thanos loved nebula what if he loved the maw. It's not the same Thanos as the main timeline
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 10/4/2021, 8:30 AM
@JFerguson - I don't think it "ruins" anything. so far What if? seems to be mostly either a fun diversion into animated territory or a character testing ground for future live-action introductions.
I don't think it's fair to judge it that way, specially when we know this production had several delays due to COVID. the episodes were supposed to be longer and the season was going to be 10 episodes instead of 9, maybe something got cut or lost along the way, including some of that canon conectivity tissue.
tl;dr, don't take it too seriously and try to enjoy the ride. sometimes fans give Marvel some grief for not trying new things and sticking to the same "formula" but apparently the same fans don't want them to deviate too much from what they've given us so far so I don't know if that game is something they can win because they'll never please everyone it seems.
personally I'd rather have them say "f*ck it" every once in a while (specially in an off-shot experiment like this) instead of being too clingy to the "lore"

@JFerguson - or after losing Gamora he just started to love Nebula little more
JFerguson
JFerguson - 10/4/2021, 8:40 AM
@Spidey91 - Fair. I'm honestly just along for the ride as you are despite having some qualms about What If taking some things a little too lightly (Party Thor for example).

Even so, Marvel Studios knows their shit. I've been learning to accept things as just a fan from this franchise, such as Daredevil being soft-rebooted and Sony using the multiverse as a loophole to sell their shit to GA. Now, more than ever, is time to just be a fan and let the professionals do their jobs

Pretty badass design.

I'm starting to think this Gamora might just be one of the many universes Infinite Ultron is visiting. Don't think she'll get an extensive backstory.

Ultron probably sweeped through the universes from the previous episodes, and Strange and The Watcher just gather the survivors of those realities (Captain Carter, T'Star-Lord, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Killmonger and Party Thor) and make their stand in Gamora's reality.
Repian
Repian - 10/4/2021, 9:39 AM
@bkmeijer - Gamora survived and wants to avenge Thanos.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 10/4/2021, 10:00 AM
@Repian - either she was clipped by Ultron on the Sovereign planet or Thanos threw her down the cliff, no way she survived.

The only universe that we've seen before I could see her be from is the T'Star-Lord episode. Thanos stopped killing, but maybe Gamora continued the mission or something like that.

I had totally forgotten about armored Gamora Variant, but the poster is badass.

Although I am expecting a surprise assembled poster of the rest of Variants in a Guardians of the Multiverse poster along with Uatu in anticipation for the Season finale.

Personally, I think a lot of those What if? Storylines from the MCU are boring with uninteresting questions. The comic book writers do it much better, like their recent 'What if Peter kept the black suit' story is amazing.
