It's been clear for a while now that What If...? is leading to some sort of crossover, but have we already met the show's big bad? We suspected that it might be the squid-like creature (Shuma-Gorath?) from the premiere, but last week's episode concluded with the arrival of a Variant of Ultron who seemingly made that synthetic body that would become The Vision his own.
As a result, it now looks like we're getting a retelling of Avengers: Age of Ultron in a reality where Ultron won. Whether he's now hopping between realities remains to be seen, but those are indeed the Infinity Stones you can see below...all six of them!
It's possible The Watcher assembles his "Guardians of the Multiverse" to put an end to this Ultron Variant. However, with just two episodes left, there's really not much time left for Marvel Studios to tie all those dangling plot threads together and form the team of heroes seen in the trailers.
Whatever the case may be, What If...? has definitely felt a tad disjointed, so here's hoping this insanely powerful Ultron can bring everything together in a satisfying way that proves this show is more than just a throwaway animated series. Regardless, this poster is pretty cool, and we're excited to see more of this terrifying android in action less than 48 hours from now.
