Talking during the virtual press conference for What If...?, Head Writer A.C. Bradley opened up about the highly anticipated episode that will stick closer to the Marvel Zombies comic than we expected.

The prospect of visiting different realities across the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse in What If...? is incredibly exciting, but there's one, in particular, that's really intrigued fans.

One episode will focus on some sort of zombie plague infecting a version of the MCU, as we've seen undead takes on Captain America, Iron Man, and Hawkeye. Spider-Man is going to be hunting them, while the latest trailer confirmed that Scott Lang's head will...well, it'll be in a jar.

While it's clear inspiration is being taken from the Marvel Zombies comic book series, what we didn't expect was that this episode of What If...? would be a loose adaptation.

Talking at the global press conference on Sunday, Head Writer A.C. Bradley explained: "Marvel Zombies was mentioned early on as a 'What if we did this?' pie in the sky throwaway not thinking, at first, that there actually has a very famous run. And then, Brad [Winderbaum] was excited and Kevin [Feige] kind of surprised us by being like, 'Yeah, you’re doing Marvel Zombies.'"

"The fun part of Marvel Zombies, at least for me, was to delve into that initial run," she continued. "Probably more than any other 'What If...?' episode, we drew directly from the comic for inspiration and for actual scenes because it is so good, and less from the movies. So, that was actually a kind of-a no-brainer that I think we kind of came up with by accident."

She then concluded by saying, "I just made a zombie pun with 'no-brainer.' I just realized that."

There are lots of iconic moments in Marvel Zombies, so we're definitely excited to see what the show borrows from that comic series and how this outbreak is explained in the context of an alternate MCU.

What If...? premieres on Disney+ on August 11.

@CorndogBurglar - Same. I'm a big Marvel Zombies fan. I have the full comic runs and the Marvel Select figures. I already pre-ordered the Legends Zombie Cap as well lol

''we've seen undead takes on Captain America, Iron Man, and Hawkeye.''

Wait, when did we see undead Hawkeye? Or are we referring to the dead weasel on his head in Endgame in this case?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this episode. And especially what the What If is gonna be.

The original Marvel Zombies book was the most disturbing comic I had ever read at that point, even more so than Kirkman's other more popular work The Walking Dead. Something about sentient, intelligent flesh eating zombies that also happen to be your favorite superheroes. Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to that episode.

@comicfan100 - You should read the Marvel Universe vs. series by Jonathan Maberry. It's a more serious take on a zombie apocalypse in the Marvel Universe. There are 3 mini-series:

1. Marvel Universe vs Punisher
2. Marvel Universe vs Wolverine
3. Marvel Universe vs Avengers

The story starts with Punisher killing some criminal that drops a briefcase full of vials of something. They spill into the sewers and then zombies start popping up. Punisher, Wolverine, and Hawkeye are basically the only ones left alive for the whole series and it shows how most all the other heroes get turned into zombies.

It's awesome.

@TheFinestSmack - Next step is knocking on our home's doors saying "Read my opinion about the first three episodes". This guy is so egocentric... We need more Pattel and less Wilding.

@Drace24 - I dont get it, really. Marvel Zombies is not even close to a good story, but it is insanely popular. Violence sells, I guess.

If T'Challa is abducted as a small child (as Peter was) and goes on to be raised in outer-space, then why would he still speak with an African accent as an adult??? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The MCU should do this more often
