What If? is one of the most exciting, and ambitious, Marvel Studios projects coming to Disney+ this year.
The animated series makes use of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's A-List actors and puts their characters in completely new surroundings. Based on the teaser released last month, some of the scenarios What If? will explore include a young T'Challa being abducted by Yondu and the Ravagers instead of Peter Quill, and Peggy Carter taking the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers.
One of the show's writers, A.C. Bradley (Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia), recently answered some fan questions on Twitter, confirming that there "are more than a few surprising MCU cameos," and that What If?'s characters will appear in more than just their own dedicated episodes.
A synopsis for the series was shared during Disney's Investor Day, reading: "'What If…?' flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways."
"Coming to Disney+ in summer 2021, Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU," it continues, "featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. The series is directed by Bryan Andrews; Ashley Bradley is head writer."
