Netflix has officially renewed The Umbrella Academy for a third season, which should come as a relief to fans eager to spend more time with the highly dysfunctional Hargreeves family.

The Dark Horse adaptation was rumored to have scored a two-year renewal after its strong debut, but given the streamer's penchant for cancelling shows just as they're hitting their stride, a third season was far from guaranteed.

THR reports that season 3 will consist of 10 episodes, with main cast members Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya and Colm Feore all confirmed top return. Steve Blackman is also back on board as showrunner.

Production is expected to begin in Toronto next February.

The season 2 finale (you can check out our review HERE) saw the gang successfully save the world (again) from armageddon, but when they returned to their own timeline, they found themselves in an alternate reality with the "Sparrow Academy" seemingly led by the now very much alive Ben Hargreeves.

Gerard Way reportedly has eight more graphic novels planned for The Umbrella Academy and would like the show to follow suit, so let's hope Netflix doesn't get twitchy if those viewership figures drop.

That opening sequence of Season 2 was the tits. I love this show, but I'm super disappointed we didn't get any more of that kind of action. It's like all of the X-Men movies. Great potential, zero delivery (for the action sequences in particular).

The first season was better than the second.

Season 3 might be good seeing Umbrella Vs Sparrows.

I had assumed that the show was already renewed. So glad that I didn't know it wasn't, because I would've been stressed out. I love it so much.

I gotta admit I don't remember where season 2 stopped, but I liked it enough to keep me invested in another season. Hopefully Netflix won't kill it off after without a proper ending

Good. Now rethink the cancellations of Teenage Bounty Hunters and I Am Not Okay With This.

This is a relief, but it amazes me how short-sighted Netflix is. They're hemorrhaging outside content. And as they grow more reliant on original shows, how are they supposed to draw new viewers in to shows they refused to give a proper ending?
