Netflix Announces Release Date For Henry Cavill's The Witcher TV Series

Ted Sarandso, Netflix's Chief Content Officer, today announced the release date for The Witcher on an investor call. Find out when you catch the Henry Cavill fronted action adventure series this year

With HBO's Game of Thrones coming to an end this year, the hunt to find the next big blockbuster fantasy action series is on and Netflix's The Witcher looks to be a prime contender along with Amazon's Lord of the Rings series. Today, Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandso revealed the series will land in Q4 - meaning the 4th quarter of the year which is just over 5 months away. The series has added heat for being leading star Henry Cavill's first starring role after his rumored departure from the Warner Bros.' DCEU franchise where he starred in 3 films as Superman before being supposedly dumped as negotiations did not work out.

No official image has been released yet save for a brief make-up test of Cavill though in recent months Cavill has been sharing images of his physical transformation into Geralt of Rivia on social media as seen in the banner image. He recently told Men's Health UK, "I'm in the best shape of my life" for the role and that the trick to transforming into Geralt was a neat cardio hack that he used - "Out of all the things I’ve done in the past.. fasted cardio.. is actually working best for me. I didn’t believe it was possible to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time." He also detailed his grueling schedule for the show which requires him to wake up at 3 AM for hair and make-up and entails 15-16 hour shoot days over and above punishing 2-hour gym workouts to get in shape for the character.

The 8-part series is based on the series of fantasy novels and short stories by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The property has already been translated into a highly successful video game series and follows the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who travels the Continent and battles deadly beasts.

Let us know in the comments section if you are looking forward to the series now that Game of Thrones is coming to an end.
