Ahead of its series premiere next month, Netflix has renewed The Witcher, its upcoming live-action adaptation of the best-selling Andrzej Sapkowski novels of the same name, for an eight-episode second season, set to debut on the streamer in Fall 2021.

Production is expected to commence early next year in London with the principal cast of Henry Cavill (Mission: Impossible - Fallout), Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust) and Freya Allan (Gunpowder Milkshake) all slated to reprise their roles as Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg and Princess Ciri, respectively.

Unlike HBO, Amazon Prime or other networks, Netflix has rarely renewed shows ahead of their debuts, so this would seemingly suggest they may be feeling quite bullish about the quality of this particular series and are confident in its ability to draw an audience when it launches December 20.

I'm wondering if it's confidence or a marketing tactic...? Netflix are about to have some SERIOUS competition in Disney+ and HBO MAX. Makes sense considering they're about to lose a lot of content in the coming year.

I dig it.
I reckon the same thing happened with the Sandman tv show.

Looks like Netflx has a lot of faith in this show. Awesome.

The trailers looked great.

I hope this turns out great and big so Hissrich gets to make the seven seasons she has planned. I need something to wash off Game of Thrones.

I’m tired of Netflix only green lighting 8-10 episodes. For as long as a wait between seasons are you’d think they push for at least 13.

@kolatrl - Everything was 13 episodes but then critics started crying that there was too much "filler" so they started cutting them down

Smart move to greenlight even if they're unsure on how it performs because Cavill could easily get tied up or contracted to another project afterwards. They've tied him down early to avoid that
