Netflix has released a full trailer for Robert Rodriguez's "spiritual sequel" to The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, We Can Be Heroes. See The Heroics and their kids in action after the jump...

We recently got a first official look at Robert Rodriguez's new superhero flick, We Can Be Heroes, via a brief teaser, and the full trailer for the Netflix family adventure is now online.

The footage begins with a superhero team known as The Heroics being taken down and captured by alien invaders, and the heroes' children - the daughter of Sharkboy and Lavagirl among them - banding together to rescue their parents. This time we get a proper look at the heroes in action, as well as a better idea of their power-sets.

Pedro Pascal stars as the leader of a team of supes, who's daughter Missy (YaYa Gosselin) rounds up 10 fellow super-powered youngsters to rescue the group when they're abducted. Christian Slater (Mr. Robot), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), and Sung Kang (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) will play some of the other heroes, while Priyanka Chopra - previously believed to be the villain of the piece - is on board as the group's "Agent Coulson Type."

This looks to be very much in the Spy Kids/Sharkboy & Lavagirl wheelhouse, and is clearly aimed squarely at the little 'uns. Still, there should be some silly fun to be had for the whole family.

We Can Be Heroes is set to premiere on Netflix on New Years Day. Check out some of the previously released images below!

Here we see Logan actor Boyd Holbrook as an unnamed Heroic member being captured by what appears to be a giant robot.

“A lot of families have spent a lot of time together,” Rodriguez explains to EW when asked why he chose We Can Be Heroes as his next project. “I’ve been getting calls from all kinds of studios: ‘Reboot Spy Kids.’ ‘Reboot Sharkboy.’ Of course they want to. They’re all sitting at home with their kids.”

Pedro Pascal as Marcus Moreno, who is on the verge of retirement when his team is kidnapped.

“I’ve wanted to work with Pedro since forever,” Rodriguez says. “[Marcus] can be a badass if he needs to. He takes the glasses off, and he looks legit.”

Prianka Chopra as the mysterious Ms. Gradenko. Is she playing the villain? Based on this pic, it's probably a safe enough assumption.

Missy and her crew. We don't know much about any of the other young heroes, but one of 'em is named Facemaker, and has the ability to alter his appearance. “[For] a kid, that’s an amazing power,” says Rodriguez. “What if you could become anyone else?”

We Can Be Heroes doesn't have a premiere date yet.

I find it strange how Rodriguez can make a movie like Sin City but then seems to purposefully make his kid genre movies look shitty.

@comicfan100 - Just bc something is aimed at a younger audience doesn’t mean it can’t be good in its own right. Spiderverse is a kids movie, Pixar makes kids movies, many people are making movies aimed at even young kids that are still not as overtly campy and cringe as this. We need to stop saying just bc it’s for kids it’s ok for something to look terrible. Kids movies can be awesome too.

@comicfan100 - I also say that as someone who was a kid when Spy Kids 1 and 2 came out and yeah there was a lot of this camp but it wasn’t quite at this level having revisited them just a few years ago

My daughter watched "sharkboy and Latta girl" over 100 times in a month and I will not have this plague released on my house. I'm not even watching the trailer

Also, why are us grown folks talking about how "terrible this film looks when it's clearly meant for a younger audience? Kids love bright, vibrant colors. They also love superheroes. We shouldn't hold this film to the same standard as an MCU film. Also, this style is in with Robert Rodriguez's wheelhouse.

What this film represents in terms of sharkboy and lava girl confuses me. Like where does this take place? In the world in the imagination of max from the first movie? Is it a seperate continuity but sharkboy and lava girl just happen to be in it? And together like in that last movie? Does it have any connection to that first movie at all?
