Hopefully this shows sucess leads to them reviving the Boba Fett movie.

@dracula - pretty sure this is what they decided to do instead of the Boba Fett movie

@dracula - If anything, this is the nail in the coffin for anything Boba Fett.

@dracula -
As Himura mentioned, the Mandalorian is being made so they can avoid paying the license fees and royalties they would have to pay to use Boba Fett

@Scarilian - huh? Disney would have to pay lucas film royalties? That makes no sense whatsoever

@sickboy76 - There is a report going around that Lucas still owns 25% of all the original characters. And that's why Disney is so keen to move on from them. That's what there are no original or prequel stuff at Galaxies edge. Or so the report says.

@DeathSeal - I believe he gets a percentage of profits from anything we’re original movies and prequel characters are included. Hence the Galaxy’s edge and mando instead of Boba Fett

@sickboy76 - Disney would have to pay lucas film royalties?

Outside of being paid for consulting or stock prices going up Disney doesn't owe Lucas for anything Star Wars related. If Disney were "avoiding using a character to get out of paying licensing and royalties" they'd have to pay for everything Star Wars related, not just random isolated characters.

The rumor is silly mainly because royalties would be attached to any connection to Boba Fett, not just his showing up on screen so if the rumor were true Lucas would still be getting royalties for the use of the Mandalorian armor alone.

This is easily the best Star Wars thing since the Clone Wars show. Solo's failure was a blessing in disguise for Disney if THIS is how they're going to treat the property going forward.

The Mandalorian (the character) is incredibly compelling from the get-go, his voice, his costume, his attitude, he has so much f*cking gravitas. Incredibly capable one moment yet vulnerable in the next one, gruff and stoic yet surprisingly sensible. What I'm saying is the guy is layered as hell.

Part of me wonders why they didn't just make a Boba Fett or Jango Fett TV show. This character is obviously inspired by them, so why not just have it be about them?

@BountyCipher - Just because Jango is dead doesn't mean a show can't be made about his adventures. Boba is dead too but that doesn't stop a movie being developed.

And I didn't mind Boba's origin, it's explored pretty well in the Clone Wars.

@BountyCipher - "This is more what Boba originally was."
Nebula

@BountyCipher - Something like Robot Chicken made a joke that he doesn't do anything but stand around and look cool so everyone just followed that line of thinking rather than make their own mind up. Him following the Falcon to Bespin is a brilliant "Show don't tell" move.

If anything, the fact that people are so dismissive of Boba is an example of why "Show don't tell" should really be "Show and tell."

@GothamSon -
Eh... if anything Disney+ will become like Netflix. People subscribe once every now and again then discontinue meaning numbers fluctuate often.

@BountyCipher - I just meant in terms of this show not being made available worldwide upon release. Europe has to wait six months, which is unfair & unreasonable.
