THE MANDALORIAN: Pedro Pascal Isn't Actually Beneath The Helmet In Every Episode Of The Disney+ Series

Pedro Pascal has been praised for his work in The Mandalorian, but it sounds like the actor is rarely beneath the armour and instead just provides the voice! Here's who is really beneath the helmet...

Vulture has a very interesting story up in which they shed some light on what's really going on beneath The Manalorian's helmet (in real-life, at least). Up until now, it's been widely assumed that Pedro Pascal both voices and performs as the character on set, but the reality is quite the opposite.

"Chapter 4" director Bryce Dallas Howard never worked with the Wonder Woman 1984 star as "He was in rehearsals for King Lear on Broadway. And so, while we were doing my episode, I wasn’t working with Pedro." Instead, the two men beneath Mando's helmet are Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder with the former picking up the majority of screentime.

"He absolutely just brought everything to that character, and we were able to find the moments and figure them out together," Howard explains, praising the grandson of legendary star John Wayne. He has a few acting credits to his name, including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Cowboys & Aliens.

Wayne says he saw Pascal on set "frequently," but also notes that he personally worked on every episode of season one and the plan is for him to return for the show's second season on Disney+.

"[Pascal] would ask me, and I would ask him the same question, which is, ‘Why did you move like this during that moment?’ We would go back and forth," he explained. "The great thing about him is he’s not impressed with himself. He’s just an actor. And I mean that in the good way, not the bad way. He likes to learn and he likes to collaborate and he’s very good at it."

This isn't the first time in the Star Wars Universe that this has happened, of course, as James Earl Jones never donned Darth Vader's costume and wasn't originally credited for his first two appearances.

This only bothers me because IMO I don't find Pascal's voice or "performance" all that compelling/unique. It sounds too much like a video game voiceover... they could have gotten anyone else. And by that I mean they could have spent way less by getting a newbie.

Pascal isn't even that big of an actor either, so if Disney's intention was to draw people in with someone like him... I personally think they would have had just as much if not more luck by taking the "let's see what this new guy can do" route instead.

He wasn't even cast until almost a month after filming started. TBH I didn't think it was him in the suit at all due to scheduling. He seemed to be verifiably elsewhere the entire time the show was shooting.
