THE MANDALORIAN Season 2 Premiere Was A Hit, But THE BOYS Was Streamed More During Its First Weekend

Last Friday, The Mandalorian returned to Disney+, but streaming data indicates that the Star Wars series wasn't viewed as many times during its first weekend as shows like The Boys and Stranger Things!

Last Friday, The Mandalorian finally returned to Disney+ for its second season. Directed by Jon Favreau, Chapter 9: "The Marshal" has received positive reviews from both fans and critics, and there's plenty of excitement surrounding what Chapter 10 has in store for us later this week.

ReelGood.com has shared some statistical information about the premiere, basing its viewership data on the streaming activity of over 2 million users in the U.S. during its first weekend on Disney's streaming platform.

They've compared the episode to the first season's opener, The Boys's recent premiere, the latest season of Stranger Things, and even stellar new Netflix series The Queen's Gambit starring Anya Taylor-Joy. While there's no denying that The Mandalorian did well, it didn't quite manage to top the Amazon Prime series or the longer-running Stranger Things.

That's not hugely surprising.

Netflix has a significantly larger subscriber base than Disney+, and The Boys' second season generated a huge amount of buzz before its return (it's also arguably a little less niche in some ways).

These figures make for interesting reading, but the simple fact that The Mandalorian's season two premiere performed better than its first is a good indication Disney+ will be happy with its viewing figures, and keep it around for a while yet. It's not like Stranger Things and The Boys are rivals to the series, either, as the live-action Star Wars series likely draws a vastly different audience.
