THE MANDALORIAN Season 2 Spoiler Recap And Discussion For "Chapter 12" THE MANDALORIAN Season 2 Spoiler Recap And Discussion For "Chapter 12"

Today's episode of The Mandalorian delivered some huge surprises, and we're now breaking them down in this spoiler-filled recap of how Din Djarin and The Child's return to Nevarro played out this week...

Din Djarin now knows where to find a Jedi, but with the Razor Crest in dire shape (and The Child not overly helpful as the ship's mechanic), he returns to Nevarro to seek out help from old friends Greef Karga and Cara Dune in today's episode of The Mandalorian. The former's men immediately set to work on repairing the ship, but there's definitely something shifty about of them. We'll come back to that, but Nevarro itself is thriving under Karga's control and Dune's watchful eye as Marshall.

However, as the bounty hunter soon learns, there's still an Imperial presence on the planet in a base just outside of town, and Karga wants his help ridding the planet of them once and for all. Din agrees, though is shocked to see that the Mythrol he captured during season one is now paying off his crimes working for Karga. With that, the four of them head to an Imperial base which definitely isn't abandoned, and is instead full of Stormtroopers. Making their way through the base, the heroes come across tanks full of deformed, humanoid creatures (one of whom definitely looks a little like Supreme Leader Snoke).

They play a hologram of Doctor Pershing explaining that he needs The Child's blood for its "M count," and that without it, their work is failing and the subjects are dying. We're willing to bet big money on "M" standing for "Midi-chlorians," and the creature's Force powers are clearly crucial to whatever these remnants of the Empire are up to (remember, Emperor Palpatine struggled to create a cloned body which could house his consciousness in the years that followed Return of the Jedi). While we know Moff Gideon is alive and well, Din finds out at this point, and rushes back to get The Child while the others blow up the base.

An intense speeder bike and TIE Fighter chase follows, with the Razor Crest zooming in to save his two friends (and the Mythrol) before immediately leaving the planet. Now he knows what the Empire wants with The Child, it's more important than ever for him to find Ahsoka Tano, but that's not going to be easy. On Nevarro, one of the pilots with the New Republic investigates what's happened, and mentioned there being some concerns about what's happening on the Outer Rim. He also compels Cara Dune to return to the fight alongside her fellow former Rebels.

The shifty alien we mentioned a little earlier has fitted a tracking beacon on the bounty hunter's ship, and notifies a member of the Empire on an Arquitens-class command cruiser where he's told that he'll be rewarded in the "new era" (a reference to the First Order, perhaps). This information is passed on to Gideon who is overseeing the creation of soldiers who look an awful lot like, yes, Dark Troopers from the Expanded Universe!

Those were cyborg clone troopers with over 70% of their body parts replaced by mechanical components, but it looks like Gideon might want these versions to be Force-sensitive. However, the two things could be unrelated, and we're not counting out the possibility that we're going to get Snoke's origin story in The Mandalorian...perhaps Din Djarin is the reason he was never able to create a proper body to return in?

What did you think of "The Siege"?

Another solid episode.

I expect the lab was creating Palpatine clones? Snoke strandcasts? Its hard to say.

Current canon has Palpatine shooting his consciousness into his clone body on Exegol just before his body falls down the Death Star shaft. We assumed that the body he transported into was the same body seen in TRoS.

So there'd be no immediate need for a new body, maybe (?). Then again, the Imperial Remnant isn't privy to his plans on Exegol. They didn't know about it until TRoS. And Snoke was created on Exegol by the Sith loyalists, and I doubt the Imperial Remnant created their own new leader that somehow Palpatine controlled.

Oh well. Let's see whe this goes. I figured the Child had some connection to the Empire's cloning process. Dr. Pershing's outfit bore the Kaminoan symbol last season. But how it fits into the larger narrative, no idea.

@GideonCipher - what hasn't happened yet?

Force-sensitive Cyborgs?

I guess that's one way to give Ahsoka a worthy opponent to fight.

Great to see Cara Dune and Grief Carga again as well as that Mythrol from Episode 1 (Did that guy 'piss' himself when he saw Mando?)

I really liked the peaceful look of Navaro and it seems that the two really cleaned up shop after Gideon left, which is nice.

Really interesting stuff with the cloning facility. I was wondering to myself what kind of uniform those two guys were wearing that guarded the cloning tubes, because it didn't look like regular imperial officers attire.

My theory is that they try to infuse bodies with forceblood in order to create foce sensitive troops, they do this kind of shit in the outer Rim where there is less oversight, kind of like the Observatories in the Aftermath books.
The scientist guy does talk about transfusion of the Childs blood and that he "highly doubts we will find another doner with a higher M-Count."
Midichlorians for sure, without saying down right.

The action scene was great I especially liked those two Scout troopers who just randomly killed themselves driving off that ridge.

My favorite scene was probably when the cops showed up again in the end and how he talks about how he 'served during Alderaan', which really gives the Star WARS an additional 'WAR' note. (not sure though if he left his "police badge" or like a "served during 9/11-style ribbon, but for Aderaan" with Cara when he was talking to her though)

All in all, fantastic as usual
8.5/10

@SpaceAgent - The uniforms worn by the workers guarding the cloning tubes are the same as the uniform worn by the scientist tha took baby yoda's blood. The one who appears in the hologram, I forget his name . They have the Kamino cloning facility symbol on their shoulders.

@SpaceAgent - I was confused as well by what he gave Cara. I'm guessing it's some sort of "thank you for your service" medaillon that he got and now passes onto Cara

@SobecKing - Pershing is his name (I think), and their uniforms also kinda look like Galen Erso's officers' uniforms

@bkmeijer - I believe the scientist seen at the end of the episode, with Gideon and the dark troopers, is wearing the exact same uniform as Galen. Great attention to detail

I don't know about you guys but that sh*t was TIGHT.
also, f*ck that kid who did not give baby Yoda some of his blue oreos. well, joke's on him.
now we're getting into some of that plot stuff people wanted: so they want Baby Yoda's blood to create clones. of what exactly? Snoke? Palpatine? or is this a misdirection and it's gonna turn out to be a new character or something? who knows (maybe Darth Vader even). as I said, the whole Snoke/Palpatine thing has proven to be a bust as far as the new trilogy is concerned so I don't know how much they're gonna want to lean onto that. then again this was probably scripted/filmed by then so no much thay can do about it if that's the case.

The Empire is trying to create Force-sensitive Death troopers? Or am I missing something.

Palpatine? Clone? Huh? No. I don’t remember. Was this in a movie?......

Thinking Gideon is trying to make those “Dark Troopers” force sensitive is a reach at this point...

I’m fairly sure it’s exactly what it looks like it is...They need the child, or more specifically his midichloriane filled blood, to create a clone body strong enough for Palpatine to inhabit...

@vegetaray - my guess is inducing the force into troopers doesn't work, so Gideon resorts to cyborg trooper as plan b

@bkmeijer - Sounds plausible...The cloning guy did say that they weren’t having any luck injecting the “M” filled blood into a living subject...

Gina was way way better this episode than last season. One of the best directed episode in my opinion

I can see this episode actually try to hint us how Supreme Leader Snoke created by using Baby Yoda's blood

Carl Weathers' directorial debut was another solid episode! Like somebody said earlier, strong Dark Forces/Jedi Outcast mission vibes. I miss that era of Star Wars. Anywho, those are definitely clones of Palpatine which become Snoke. That's where all this is leading, hence the "long live the empire" thing.

I kinda think Gideon sees, just like Greef, that the whole galaxy is uncontrollable by one party and therefore wants an army of super soldiers.

I was also kinda expecting a history lesson from the Armourer about The Tribe, but looks like she is nowhere to be seen.

And can please stop with dropping The Child off so easily at a baby sitter every damn episode!
